Anschütz 1416D range report

Post by Lorgar » 12 Jan 2014, 3:32 pm

So two week ago or so I picked up my new Anschütz 1416D with the heavy barrel and beavertail stock.

I've had a few trips to the range now and found the ammo it likes and this is the result...

The rifle...

Couldn't be happier :D

Anyone thinking about buying a 1416 or looking for the right ammo for it, there you go...

I tested a dozen different types of ammo for it too, will post that in another topic...

Actually it wasn't, not by a long shot.

$7 a box, or $64 for a brick.

Most expensive I tried was $12 a box.

I've done another topic here with a comparison of all the ammo I tried.

You definitely can't argue with that 5 shot.

Cold bore and freshly cleaned, hey?

You were in on that "Should I clean a 22 or not" top a while ago. Was this your 1,000 round clean like the Anschutz book recommends or are you cleaning more regularly now?
See you on the firing line.

Nice shooting.

Perfect weather on the day to be shooting like that I guess?

Aster,

This was the 1,000 round clean as the Anschutz manual recommends.

Regardless, that's the best group I've shot with it, including shooting about 30 groups with the same RWS club ammo. I know heaps of people go on about how their 22 shoots crap after they clean it and they have to diry it up with 20 rounds before it shoots well, but that's not the case for my rifle it seems.

That 10 shot group was shot after about 70-80 rounds from cold/clean.

I'm going to have to do a few trips with cleaning the barrel, and others with not cleaning a barrel, and see how those first 5 shots go in each situation.

If clean is an improvement then I'll be cleaning mine after every trip.

It was pretty good, yeah.

A mild breeze, but it was fairly constant. Not the intermittent gusts which muck up your groups.

I can maybe attribute a little spread to the wind, but it would only be the smallest fraction...

I can attest to how good the 1416D is, it is awesome :o

Great shooting Lorgar.

We will have to get together at the range again soon.

We can pit the Aunny against the Marlin

I haven't been to the .22 range for a few weeks now.

Not since before the Forum Little River meet up.

Will have to pencil in a few days next week. I'll see how much I get done on the weekend and sort out my timetable.

You tried any of the RWS Premium line ammo yet Lorgar? The R50 or R100?

Or their 'Professional' line?

Curious to see what that will do if this is what you're getting from their entry level stuff.

I was keeping an eye out for it for a while after I picked up the rifle, but they were in the middle of a supplier change over or something and it was unavailable.

Can't say I'm in a mad rush to get out and try it given how good the Club stuff shoots. Not bad for "practice" ammo for "beginners" is it

I'll try the R50 or R100 if I see it on the shelf somewhere. Can't say when that'll be though...

Hi Lorgar.
I'm looking at a 1416 for silhouettes. A lady in our club has a 1416 with a light barrel. I see in online gun suppliers they have 1416 DHB and also 1416 DHB Heavy Barrel.
is the 1416 DHB Heavy Barrel. like a varmint barrel?
and the "DHB" the standard barrel
I don't want a beaver tail.
Thanks F

PS I' m a Lefty also

Hey firepac,

Some confusion on the stores part there it seems, on the Anschutz variants:

D = Single Stage Trigger
HB = Heavy Barrel.

"1416 D HB" and "1416 D HB Heavy Barrel" would be the same thing, you just need to look at which stock you want.

Only one comes in a lefty, this is your 1416L D HB.

Options are:

I love the little Anschutz Rimfires, great fun and bloody accurate.
Here is my 1416 and target with RWS hollow points.
30 shots from a cold barrel.
