Any extreme long range target shooters here ?

Post by Blr243 » 15 Jan 2019, 9:13 pm

Not that I’m interested in trying it. But I have heard of comps where people are shooting at targets 500 m away or a k or whatever. So what ranges are these people shooting at. And what sort of groups are they getting ?

F-Class shoots to 1000yds I think, but not groups, one shot, then the target is marked and patched, then another shot.

500m is barely long range let alone ELR, I compete at 600yds & 1000yds (549m & 914m) and can generally achieve 0.5moa at those distances with a 50BMG. I shoot out to 1600yds, 2400yds and working on 3220yds with some degree of success. My son is using a 6.5 Creedmoor for 300m competition and will step up to 550m this year if he continues to practise. My view of ELR (>2400yds) is that you need to hit the target 3/5 shots to deem it a success. I've achieved 4" 5 shot group at 1000yds which is good for the cartridge but the 7mm SAUM and some of the 6 / 6.5mm cartridges can group <2" with the right guy squeezing the trigger. What are you looking to achieve and what sort of budget do you have?

“Long range” is term that’s entirely relative to the rifle you’re using.
For example, 600 yards is extreme for .44-40 but only mid range for a .45-70
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.
