I have the drawings I can send you. They're full-size on one-inch grid. I basically mark out the grid (at whatever scale I'm making - one-inch, half-inch, three-eighths, fifth, and tenth scale) only where I need to draw, then just sketch them in freehand straight off the computer screen. I haven't bothered trying to print them at any scale. Once I've made a template I just cut them out of copy paper ten pages thick, and file them away.

PM me your email address and I'll send them through.

EDIT: These are the ones I use - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-2sc-IHMSA-NRA-Metallic-Silhouette-Targets-4pc-AR500-Steel-Rifle-Knock-overs-/261052417780

When printed, the squares are exactly 10mm, and I have put visual guides that i hope can be read through the scope as to how many squares/mm away from the bullseye. Furthermore, I did these targets at night, so I dont know if i got the calculations correct at the top.

I would appreciate any feedback and happy to make the required changes to make this something a little more appropriate/acceptable.

I tried to upload the .docx but the file is not allowed. In the instance that anyone would like this template, your welcome to PM me and I'll send the .docx

The JPEG is just for preview. It is NOT to scale. If you want the scaled version, download the PDF attachment.

It looks good but I prefer diamonds rather than squares.
I aim at the intersections of the fine lines for precision, but I'm leaning toward printing my next targets with a 45-degree grid so the lines are not obscured by the reticle.

I'm going to have a play in photoshop tomorrow and do some metric scaled (A4 - 10mm / 100mm scale) targets and upload them. Feedback would be appreciated.

Some rimfire targets I like to use at home. The jpegs are big enough to be printed clearly. If anyone needs pdf's I can add them later.

Not sure if this is known or not (I don’t really know if it’s true) but this came up whilst I was buying some gear today at a lg shop - in Tas it’s apparently illegal to shoot at targets that resemble in silhouette - a human outline (like you see at most us ranges) and apparently, even on private property’s - you can and will be charged for shooting such a target Or targets that might represent a person.....
The query arose when a gent came in alongside me to buy some clays and said he was gunna put some photos of his ex on the clays and shoot em. The shop owner advised him of the legalities and it sparked a convo.

If anyone is looking for good target backing...
My local green shed is selling out of coreflute at the moment...

500mm x 600mm x 3mm thick sheets in green red & blue,

As well as 1m x 1.2m x 4mm thick white sheets.

All sizes for $2.50 per sheet...

Its the best stuff for shooting targets...ive always got a couple of sheets in the car when i go bush.

Its also good for pinning out furs (fox/cat etc) after tanning to oil them up.

This is what I mean, the horizontal/verticle reticle does not obstruct the 45-degree grid lines.

I think marksman is saying frame the edge of the box with the reticle--so im using frame in place of his bracket wording...
And if you want the holes to print inside the box you just dial them over the half inch (or whatever click value is necessary)

I can't see how to "frame" it with same precision as aiming at a line intersection though.
When I'm shooting paper I dial the impacts to be away from my aiming point already, so it remains consistent.

yes Stix you got it

its and old benchrest trick l have been shown for doing test loads for precision, a 1" square and as Stix said frame the box shape with your reticle but your shots are hitting inside the box where you can see the group without the target being affected by holes, l do see the principle of what you are doing Blade but for me it looks a bit crowded to look at :unknown: but if it works for you thats all that matters :drinks:

I understand that, but my problem is not that the bullet holes obliterate my aiming point. It's that my reticle lays perfectly on top of the grid lines, which takes just a touch of precision out of my aiming.

Couldnt your alternatively aim for the middle of a square rather than the cross and that way the lines wouldn't be in the way -- or print a target with orange lines so you can differentiate your crosshairs to the lines?

I could, but that's even less precise. I aim at the intersection of the grid lines, dropping my bullets around an adjacent intersection, usually above the one I'm aiming at. I really can't see a finer aiming mark than the precise intersection of two very fine lines. The only difficulty is that the reticle is about the same thickness of those lines at 50m. A 45-degree grid remains totally unobscured by the reticle, giving me the finest possible target, as can be seen in the pic I drew. I recommend trying it yourself.

Hi Guys,
Soon, I am going to go to the range at first time, so I wonder can I obtain the targets at the range or I need to print them from this post?
I'd need targrets for 223 at 100-200m distance.
Please, be kind if my question seems silly to you.
Thanks.

Targets are usually available at ranges to buy. But may not be the same.

Or you can print the ones here if you want.
