SSAA Belmont rifle range

Post by AlphaGenesys » 05 Feb 2014, 9:59 am

Morning all.

My SSAA membership is about to run out and I'm thinking I might change my club as I live close to Belmont.

I Googled around and found a few clubs but they all have a shoot every 2/3 weekend for only one day.

Are there any ranges in Belmont that aren't SSAA where I can use my own targets and shoot with a full mag (SSAA makes us do single shot...) and are open on the weekends so I can come and go when I please any weekend. Or am I out of options and will I have to stick with them.

Regards,
Zak :!:

Same here, I've been going to SSAA belmont and i do miss being able to use magazines and stuff. Hand loading .22lr one at a time its just a hassle after a while. So is there any clubs out there where we can use magazines?

I have heard Belmont are pretty anal about everything...so I'm not surprised.

edit: and I'm pretty anal about safety mind you but what exactly does this accomplish? O_O

Same here, I just dont see the point.

So do you know of any other ranges in/near brisbane where things are more relaxed? (but still safe)

It accomplishes nothing.

Just people with no idea making rules so it looks like they're doing something.

I'm waiting for the rocksberg range to get underway from what I hear its going to be the Mortenbay region Belmont hopefully minus the anti magazine rules...I have met the people there and I doubt they will be creating ridiculous anti gunner rules like the Belmont range lol

I imagine most of the, lets call them "enthusiastic", safety measures are more at the instruction of liability lawyers than experienced shooters.

Sounds good! What do you mean underway? Build it? Would they need volunteers? I'd be keen to help

Yeah they just got approval by council and all that jibba jabba and are close to starting construction from what I have read/heard

I just went to a meeting out at the range location a while back and it sounds really good, they have a membership waiting list and will only be starting to sign up again when construction starts. Give them a call or send them a email and ask them if they need any help, I think they have working bee type things? but given the expense of the project I would say regular donations would be well received ? if your having trouble finding contact details I can help you out.

but from what I heard at the meeting, these are some of the things being planned for construction if my memory serves me right...

-25 & 100m range, indoor pistol range, shotgun range, shopping center style car park and other relevant structures. Apparently its going to be really competitive with pricing as well.

edit: here is a old news piece on it and why its taken the project this long to get up and going.

I can only speak for Little River and Springvale which are my two local SSAA ranges and they are $15 / $30 too.

Different for a few ranges I guess...

Not bad.

Buy a range pass $200\ year i think makes it cheap if you shoot alot or they also have a blue card which is $60-00 and then you pay $10/ day once you have this.Ask next time your talking to Happy!!!! :P

My wife and I are members of SSAA Brisbane and can't understand why we aren't told about this when we join, my wife and I have been twice to Belmont and no one told us about range pass or blue card, not happy about that.... :(

I shoot at the Casino SSAA range that we use in conjunction with the Casino Rifle Club.

Range fees are $15 including your target, or you can buy a range pass for $60.

If you use the range more that 4 times a year the $60 is cheap, magazine loading is permitted depending on what is being shot at the time.

Wednesday is general shoot. Sat and Sunday depends on what has been scheduled.

Townsville SSAA at harveys range is single shot only - no mag full of ammo there.. I asked why - RO said if a cow walks across the range and he calls cease fire then its more work for them! and harder to control... (Funny the Army had no issues with belt feed M60's) all you have to do is unload the bloody thing.. mag off, clear the gun! how hard is that
