Anyone been to a Thailand shooting range?

Post by feedr » 23 Feb 2014, 2:33 pm

Hi all,

Planning in preparation for a couple of weeks in Thailand coming up.

Anyone been and hit up a shooting range over there?

They're a bit more liberal on the toys I expect...

Anyone been? What's on offer? What did you shoot?

Not personally, but have a few mates who've brought back pictures of they shoots there.

It's like the US on steroids from the looks of things

Just turn up and put through 100 round belt on an M60 on full auto and that kind of stuff.

Probably one of of these internet urban legends, but aren't there supposedly some places where you can bazooka a goat and this kind of thing?

It was a cow when I heard the story.

Myth I reckon. Surely no where is allowing that.

Like the US is usually so conservative on this kind of thing :P

Agree that the cow thing is urban legend too. In any case, who wants to shoot a poor innocent cow :(

I've been to many ranges in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam etc etc.

The Thailand one's are pretty good in terms of what weapons you can shoot. last time i was there i shot about 5 or 6 different pistols, 5-6 different rifles, a handful of different shotguns and about 10 different automatic firearms. everything from 38 revolvers to ak47, m16 and M60's!

It was a few years ago, but the M60 was about 1USD per bullet, but what ever you do, don't make my mistake... check it's not on full auto! (The "RO" tends to like to flick it to full auto just so your string of 20 lasts just one trigger pull!

Safety was my main concern. both my wife and I shoot and we tended to go to the ranges at less busy times. they were pretty relaxed with safety rules and tended to fling barrels around like they were chopsticks.

All in all I've had some great fun though

That's the problem with stuff like the M60.

Hell of a lot of fun to shoot for an experience, but costs about a few $ per second of fun :(

A couple of my mates went to a Thailand one and said there were blokes there knocking out 100 rounds in one squeeze.

Too rich for me.

yup, cash is king alright!
i gave up after 1 string of 20 rounds on the M60. figured i'd just spend the money on other firearms.
the AK and M16 were good fun and the different pistols were a blast.
problem was, the first time i went shooting at the Ko Samui range i was by myself and thought i did pretty well. went back to the hotel and showed my wife. she said ok lets go tomorrow. the next day we turned up and my wife shot some pretty bad ass groups. i mean, i was shooting sub 1-1.5 inch groups with various firearms at various distance, but she was just nailing it to that little old red dot in the middle, round after round!
that was when i found out for the first time that my wife worked at a shotgun range as a 12 year old child...
She still beats me about 30-40% of times, accept with clay pigeon... i may as well be using a nerf gun to compete with her on clays. had some lessons, but just cant compete with the wife on that front!... at least not yet ;-)

That's the thing to do over there. Variety!

I'd much rather put 10 rounds through 10 things I've never going to have here than blast out 100 rounds in a few seconds on 1 full auto and be done.
