Rear rests with bunny ears VS bean bags

Hi guys,

I'm after advice on what you guys prefer for your rear rests for accuracy.

In you're guys experience, have you found the firm rear rests with bunny ears to be best? Or regular soft bags? I see some guys use a little sack of tumbler medium or whatever.

Advice for a budding target shooter?

I wouldn't say a "soft" bag.

You want it to be firm enough that once you hunker down and put some pressure on the rear of the rifle it's firm and not wobbling around.

A lot of guys use tumbler medium like you said, but remember that's not jelly... With a bit of pressure on it it's quite hard.

IMO start with the bag, not the bunny ears. Bunny ears are good if you're adjusting from the front rest, but more awkward if you're aiming by moving the rear of the rifle because you don't really have any side to side wiggle room.

I agree the bunny ears ones are great for a firm back, but not very co-operative for aiming from the rear.

Adjustable front rest and a firm rear bag for me.

A basic front rest with elevation adjustment is enough for my shooting.

No need to for windage adjustment unless you just want to be aiming completely with the rest and just feathering the trigger. Boring as bat s**t shooting like that IMO though

To the op, even the largest, heaviest rear bags can be "squeezed" to adjust point of aim, for shooting in the field off a bipod a "bean bag" filled with rice, popcorn or walnut media will do a great job however off the bench using a front rest you'd have to go with a bunny ears style bag for its stability and ability to guide the rifle rearwards under recoil
