Yep, a new scope. Your not doing it justice by having that on it.

What are you talking about?

It depends on what you think your main shooting distance will be and what your shooting at.

If you sight in for too long a zero your mid range trajectory can be too high . 250 to 275 m would be about right maybe 300m.

It depends on how high they are midrange you must be handloading?

I would be interseted in how the 110s go. I have only used 130s in mine and they are probably too big for goats.

Any way have fun with it, and let me know how it shoots.

Depends on how far your shooting...

If you're hunting with it though, it's a common practice to sight in about 1.5" high at 100m.

This way you are (roughly) 1.5" high at 100m, bullseye at 200m and 3" low at 300m.

It's an easy trajectory to remember and is easy to compensate for when shooting.

Otherwise tell us more about what/where you're shooting...

110g on a 270, that's flat as. If it's used for what that cal was intended for it will need a bit more range on the scope. That's what I'm talking about

For what the 270 was intended for was deer size targets , and if you cant see a deer with 9 x then you need a trip to the optometrist don't forget your guide dog though.

And if that's what you meant why didn't you say that, in english would be handy too.

do you know the BC of those 110grainers? muzzle velocity? put the number into a spreadsheet and work out MPBR; zero for a 4inch target would be in the area of 210 to 230yds....with an MPBR of 250 or so yds... then zero your scope accordingly

58grains of 2209 is over max, no doubt you know what you're doing....

I do know what I'm doing. Don't know what that jaso bloke is on about, no deer over here where I am. I'm using it for goats, pigs an the odd long fox and kangaroo shot.

I just put it 1.5 inch high at 100 and it was hitting 4 inch low at 200 then ran some at 58gn zero at 100 just a touch low at 200 that's with the 110 ballistic hornady.

I think I'm goin to change powder an experiment a bit more as I'm out of AR 2209 now anyway.

I was asking if Jaso knew what he was talking about wado when he said you need a higher power scope than 9x

IMO you have about the right sized scope for a 270 unless it is a dedicated varmit rifle

I didn't say anywhere you didn't know what you are doing?

Anyway back to the real subject which is light bullets in the 270 what powder are you going to use next?

According to my reloading manual (nick harveys 9th edition) IMR 4064 gives the best velocity with light bullets but I don't know where you get that in Australia.

Win 760 seems to give reasonable velocity as well. But AR 2209 is one of the best allround powders for the 270.

Good Luck and good shooting

No worries mate yea I've played around with different bullets but always kept to the same powder wouldn't mind getting a good velocity were I'm not dropping as far probably stick with the 110gn or the 100gn projy as both work very well for me personally cheers for the info ;)

I have a 4-12 x 50 on my .270 and it's sighted in at 200m. I find I use it on 9x most of the time even on shots over the 300 mark

9x is heaps for hunting IMO.

I rarely ever take mine off 4.5x magnification even.
