would be easier if your stupid recurve had a sight on it Bahahaha!!!

Chronos

Sights on a bow, you must be joking - you can either shoot or not - your brain will (possibly) work it out...........
Out to about 20 - 30m, after that sights are an assistance (bluddy big assistance at 60+m) and are necessary when hunting, for a clean kill/ shot placement.

For the archery I do, sights are unnecessary if your brain is reasonably functional.......... for a given level of functionality.
Don't do this after a 6 pack stuff.

Will have to 'borrow' a bow, as the sons 30lb recurve is not set up properly for me, ie. it feels different/funny from what I am used to.

excuses, excuses...............

Just doing an approximate attendance list:

1 = definite attendance & 2 = maybe/depending - gleaned from the comments on this thread.

Number 2's are: Blackened, Kelix, petermacsydney & WesleySnipes

Number 1's are: Chronos, Apollo & Hilux2003.

Number 3's - should be "the others" from our fellow forums - all shootin' people.

We will see who turns up & if they accept the challenge - open sights, no sling, 400m, 300w x 400h steel, using a "nearly' 100 year old Sweed. I'm supplying the rifle & ammo for this challenge on range 1 (metalic template).

I managed the first 3 out of 5 shots = ding, Chronos only did the one out of one, so he's on 100%.............. so far..... har, har, har, he is yet to go for the 5 shot test!

See you on Saturday arvo for the "challenge" and a beer or xx later in the shed and/or on Sunday at range 2 for the benchrest 50 to 300m, shoot, rimfire & centrefire - 'wot you brung sort of ting' (max. 8mm range template) - all on paper, as range 2 is a soft target range.

I'm definitely coming, but just for the day on Sunday.

What time are you guys likely to kick off shooting on Sunday morning?

The ammo box is full and the rifle's are clean :-)

In the absence of someone else answering the last I heard was Range 2 Benchrest starts at 12.30pm as per normal schedule. However, setting out gear will start in the morning and once finished there could be some early shooting happening before lunch.

Range 1 and the Silly Wet Range might be going as soon as the crew wakes up and clear the heads from the night before.

Hilux2003 may be home tonight to answer in more detail. Last I knew he was not going to camp at the range. Working bee was on today.

See the opening screed to this Topic.

The 3rd Sunday of each month is scheduled Benchrest on Range 2, starts 12.30pm until everyone has had enough. Those that are not interested in Benchrest will be on the other ranges shooting all sorts from early each morning. Sorry but I don't know any further what they will be up to or how many will be there.

If you arrive really early then go past the Pistol Range and Range 2 then onto Range 1 where most of the crew should be camped. I'm sure you will be able to clear the air with gunsmoke somewhere really early.

Sounds like a good plan.

I'm still trying to get my canopy mounted on my truck. Not an easy task when you have a busted foot and hand yet alone a crook back. Time for a beer and try again tomorrow. Then to town shopping, reloading and packing gear so I'm running out of time quick.

On the Sunday morning once we get range 2 set up, target frames out & Apollo's dinky wind flags sorted, we will be shooting. I'll give up my 'sports pistol shoot' in the morning to run range 2 all day. :o

Still got more work to do on range 2 (left over from Friday's working bee), so I aim to at the complex about 2 - 3pm Saturday & over night stay.
Will be at range 2 by 9am Sunday.

I think you will run out of ammo before we run out of time to shoot.

I made it back home alive! :D
When I left on Sunday arvo, everyone else was ok, some a bit worse for wear.
No archery this weekend - but there is now an archery target frame at the complex, covered in shade cloth & stuffed with plastic fly screen off cuts - will stop an arrow from a 60lb bow.

Some photos below, more later when I get the time........

I should also announce the winner of the case of coopers beer for the best group with a hunting rifle went to hilux2003 with a .874" group at 200m in difficult wind conditions. Gusts snaking down range from behind the firing line catching more than a few out including myself who was beaten by my wife with the CZ .204R (also a sub 1 1/2" group at 200 m)

Congratulations and enjoy the cold ones mate

Great day Sunday. Pity "Chronos" didn't want to help putting up the Wind Flags so I notice the mention of the crazy breeze from behind the firing line which swirled all the way down the range. Next time I'm just going to say, hey .... can I get some help setting out Flags. Yes, they came out of their box on Sunday night for people to have a fiddle with.

Congrats to Hilux2003 for his win with the .223R Savage. Wished I had brought my CZ.223R or my Tikka T3.243W in factory mode.

"petermacsydney" I hope you enjoyed your first visit to the range and didn't mind me pestering you to have a shot of my BR Rifles, all in the interest of playing with something different. Next time I'll hope to have some decent ammo sorted out rather than "fireforming" and "test loads" that haven't been tried before at either 100m or 300m as I ended up when the wind was really a lot of fun, experimenting reading the grass move.

Sunday night or more correctly 4.00am Monday morning there were still two of us up and really it was an experience. I headed off further out to the Silly Wet Range and camped in what I thought was somewhere quiet until the cattle turned up to investigate. Anyway, somehow I managed to get some sleep until well mid morning when it was too hot. Still recovering.

Thanks to all that attended.

I'll try and be a bit more organised next time and not forget most things I would like to have taken with me like a .22Hornet for a bit of fun especially seeing the fun the Club President "Tom" had with his .17 Fireball CZ in the wind.

Hey nuzo, yeah great doona cover. Lol

I've edited my previous post after looking at targets again, My wife's .204R shot just over the 1" mark, not sub 1".

Interestingly my .243 shot a a nice sub 1" 4 shot group with the 5th shot 3" away. Lol guess I can't call the wind caused that. I actually thing I forgot my aim point and aimed at the center if the square target instead if the corner if the square.
