Tell us what shooting targets you want us to make you

Post by Aster » 27 Apr 2014, 10:24 am

As you've probably come across we have a bunch of free shooting targets on the site which members can download.

Some fun, some serious. Practice animals, billiard balls, coins bottles etc.

Like this...

Image

We have requests trickle in few new targets so I thought I'd open a post to see what targets people want.

If we get a few popular ones we'll make the time put them together for you guys for download.

Only conditions:
Nothing that might have copyright issues (I know everyone who watches game of thrones wants to shoot Joffrey).
No targets of your least favourite politician or things in that vein...
See you on the firing line.

I'd still like a couple of regular bulleyes for sighting in.

i've had some playing cards i've been playing with as targets, how about a deck of cards target, then as a fun shoot you could draw a card from the deck, that becomes your target, then each shooter has to shoot their card, winner is the shooter with the most hits after 1 min?

I use printed targets all the time at my local SSAA range and they've not said a word.

I shoot at pigs, bunnies, bottles, coins and the general sighting in targets.

I'd like a progressive type of target, so my friends and family can have some fun shooting the easy ones if they like, but can try the smaller targets when they get confident.

There's not a hell of a lot you can fit on an A4 page though... Maybe like a frog with flies around it, or a fish scene, or a food chain??

On another note, how about some targets that are pretty much exactly the same size as your projectile? Would this even work? Just a thought.

depends on the range, at a range like silverdale you can only shoot ssaa targets but at st marys you can put anything on the target frams other than humanoid targets like osama bin laden or politicians etc

i also have metallic silhouette animals scaled for 25 and 50m which allows me to practice anytime

yeah i kinda figured humanoid would be discouraged.. although you cant really say that Kardashians ass is in any way related to man kind.
i usually go to silverdale, but occasionally get out to St Mary's, so i'll still vote for my fave, whcih is "battle ship board game...

Lol. I read that as Cheese board. Suppose you could have a block of Swiss cheese and shoot the holes, smaller hole, more points. Hit the cheese, loose points. Even put a mouse in there for bonus points :)

just had a thought guys, how about a target, either A4 or A3, landscape with a series of say 4-6 vertical columns of 1" grid squares with aim points in the center

the point of such a target would be that you could take your target to the farm and set it up then walk back with your rifle and shoot one or three shots the on the first column at say 20m for a rimfire, then 40m, 60m, 80m and 100m for the next 4 columns ( could be 50m, 100m, 150m, 200m and 250m for a centerfire)

this would allow you to sit down and plot your point of impact for the usable hunting ranges for your gun and see what it's really doing. is it zero'd correctly for the ballistics of your cartridge? does the point of impact drift left or right as you get further out?

if you find the point of impact on your .22 hits 1" above your point of aim at 20m, 2" high at 40m and is bang on at 60m you might consider making an adjustment to bring it down so it shoots just half an inch an inch low at 20m, an inch high at 40m and an inch low at 60m (just pulled some numbers from thin air, not actual figures)

i'd like to test this on my .22 but also my new .308 where i plan on leaving the scope set for a good point blank range for hunting, while ballistic software is good, i'd still like to see holes in paper

Happy to do that.

Only thing with providing in A3 is that the majority of people don't have an A3 printer which limits its usefulness a bit.

A4 though no problems. You can always pin up 2-3 targets as required obviously.

Added to the to-do list.

Yeah I understand that. I usually email A3 stuff to my wife to print at work.

A4 is fine and 1" squares make 1/4 minute clicks pretty easy.

Thanks mate.
