Silverdale future

Post by Bergararse » 07 Jul 2023, 6:07 pm

Just received the email from SSAA today about the new 25M indoor range in Auburn.

Reading between the lines on this paragraph..

"A large number of members live and shoot in the greater Sydney region. With urban encroachment, a second airport about to come online; ranges in the area face the risk of closure."

Are they alluding to the idea that Silverdale might be closing down due to the airport coming into play? I wouldn't have thought it would be too different to Malabar.

Except Malabar is oriented seaward, on the coast.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

The airplanes are still flying overhead though? And a lot of them swing left straight off the runway, over the water when heading to Brissy.

I guess we'll find out in a couple of years.

That email alludes to the closure of the Hurstville smallbore range.
The fundamental problem at Silverdale is that it is licenced as a zero safety zone range. That means that a bullet must not travel beyond the confines of the range due to not having an additional safety zone. However it is rumoured that past inspections by range inspectors have revealed bullet strikes in trees on top of the stop butt. That has led to caliber restrictions, stricter range rules and increased baffling.
If Silverdale ever gets shut down permanently it will likely be due to a major incident caused by an idiot not following simple safety rules.
