Hits and misses at the range

I went out to the range this morning to give a mate of mine a go at shooting and to test my new chronograph. My mate had a ball and shot some good groups for someone who's never shot before.

In the intermission between shooting I went forward to set up the chronograph and had it nearly ready to go when my tripod suffered a catastrophic failure. The top mount snapped clean off, I guess I should have looked for something more sturdy than a camera tripod. At least I didn't shoot the chronograph like I thought I would

After that I went back to the bench and shot two of the best 100 yard groups I've ever shot with my .308.



Both are 3 shot groups. I guess two wins out of three aren't bad

a shame about the tripod, doesn't sound as though the chrony got damaged, but hey, NICE GROUPS!!!

I caught it before it hit the ground so no damage done.

Cheers . Just measured the smaller group, .524 outside which makes for .216 centre to centre!

Now try five shots or better still ten and see what happens.....

Just having a dig, nice groups too. Some people irrespective can't get the last shot to group regardless how many shots in the group.

It's all training and makes you a much more confident hunter as well knowing what you and the rifle plus load are capable of achieving under controlled conditions.

lol, I once saw a guy shoot the first sensor thingy and then the bullet turned into a magic bullet, it did a 90 degree turn and smash the guts of it , with a 38 super.

I've been there before. Sometimes when I'm shooting a good group I have to take a couple seconds before the last shot to calm myself and treat it like any other shot otherwise I pull it

It's a Remington Varmint SF. They are my handloads but they were made for another rifle funnily enough. They were seated 10 thou shorter than my usual load and had an extra gr of powder. I'm gonna have to revisit load development I think

A couple of very nice groups there mate, I thing 2 wins out of three is a reasonable average.

43gr 2206H behind a 168gr Nosler Custom comp seated at 2.320 measured off the ogive. Cases were federal and primers were federal 210

I've heard it said before that there's two kinds of chronographs, those that have been shot and those that will.
