Sydney Long Range for a 300WM

Hi

I heard second hand the Anzac range doesn't allow magnum calibers

What ranges are available to the public in and around Sydney for long range shooting that would allow a 300 Win Mag?

I'm a SSAA member.

Also if I can squeeze in a second question, whats the longest range they have at Silverdale?

Silverdale has a restricted calibre list, but 300 Win Mag is not listed so you should be OK. Longest range is 200m I believe.

Its for NRAA ranges in general there are exceptions.

When things get close to the limit it can go either way depending on the RO or the Range specific rules and how detailed they are. another example would be the 303 which is clearly allowed on those ranges.

After just checking the interwebs this came up on google.
The official military designation of the new cartridge was the .45-70-405. Caliber was .458” (11.6mm)
That would not be close in most peoples minds I would think.
The limit was always just a suggestion at the range i went to. The boys were always happy to shoot a 50 cal

while the 8mm idea was/is a thing, it's more about muzzle energy at anzac. I think 3000ft/lb is the limit in the police permit. I've seen black powder rifles make an appearance at the MDRA (not to be confused with the SSAA; SSAA freak out over 22wmr because it's got "magnum" in the name).

Yes energy limits I have seen at several ranges including Bendigo which is also 3000 from memory. The energy limit is probably the hardest to track and enforce. As even within a caliber there can be significant differences depending on the reload. There were times that a max loaded 308 could exceed the energy limit and no one would know. The velocity of the round I have never seen tested at a range for compliance.

The muzzle energy restriction at the NSWRA Anzac Rifle Range is much the same as applied at many other ranges with a safety template.
It is 4500 joules which roughly equals 3320 foot pounds.
That translates to about 3100 fps for a 308 155 grain projectile.

Thank goodness the range I shoot at has none of this nonsense. If it is legal to own you can shoot it there.
