'some comments deleted here' - just got to remember this page is PUBLIC visible.

Anyway - we may have some progress on the 500m Fly stuff.
Soil Con - the 'official Crown Lands' ground/soil 'relocaters' & diggers - are going to do some earth works on the WRSC silly wet range.

Just throw money................ lots of money................

Should be getting a 2w drive track to the 500m target line and the rails/target points at 500 dug/constructed to 3 levels for the rails/target frames (same as the 385m) with 2m or better bullet stop.

We 99.9% finished the "hopefully cattle proof" fench at the silly wet today, so they can't camp under the roof over the shooting bays, 900mm hindgejoint, 3 high-tensile & 3 barb at the top. Only got to shovel out the sh*t after 4+ years of cattle occupation, etc.

'further deleted content'

BUT .... not finished yet! So we keep working at it.................

Sounds like things are going in the right direction out that way hilux,

I have a bunch of 400x400x40 clay pavers I'm happy to donate as flooring in the shed at the silhouette range, just need our mate ex_reven to transport them on his truck. Lol

That's awesome Hilux!

Good to see progress :D

I had no idea about the earthworks. that sounds like a great idea and will give my poor little subaru a break! hahaha (but really, make the range more accessible to all which is awesome!)

Cheers,

P.S. what? people don't like rolling around in fresh cow patts? :D

Clays are usually relegated to the days end, but that being said we have had some days where we went through a great deal of rounds on shottie.
I probably wouldn't bring more than a box per person. Time is the limitation mostly as it tends to get dark quickly.

When we get a proper lighting setup going we will be able to do it til 10pm in future, but I don't think this will come about prior to august (bays of high powered lights are quite expensive).

We have organised to get two auto throwers - kindly lent from SSAA Mudgee 5 Stand shotgun club. So that should keep things interesting ;)

I found out the Soil Con blokes were nearly finished doing the tracks to spray the blackberrys & other bits on Friday. As I had a job in Kandos, I got the foot in & met them that morning to explain what we needed done.

Bit of a accounting/discussion session re money & who pays what that evening & over the weekend but the Soil Con blokes 'should' be digging & contouring the 500m bank this comming week. Along with the track to the 500m distance.

Nuzo - remind me to get the keys for the sillygun throwers a bit closer to the weekend, please.

I've found it prudent to call them "cattle resistant" fences

Yer....... some of the big black (CATTLE, just to cover any comments) buggers (I'm not a cattle person, just like the flavour with a little salt & pepper, maybe some garlic & onions....) look like they just step over the fence. I will be testing the electric fence energiser, battery & solar setup (or getting Nuzo to do it) to see if it still functional & then running a hot wire on the fences.

I'll give you 'memory' & 'foggy' younger person you... 'un printable stuff' :o

Just got "all night long" playin' - & you shook/took me... [on the orifice stero set up], only 50% volume... I get in the Sh*t if I rattle the windows with bass.

Yea, 70's & 80's pub music just hit the speakers - "we're never gunna die", hell, I've nearly run out of beer... no worries, found the fridge...

next track = "Friday on my mind" - luverly ;)

Update on the silhouette upgrade.

We have the earthworks done at the 500m distance.

Plus the track so "most 2 wheel drive" should make it to the 500m or so - at least - close to the 500m distance ;-)=

The erosion control/contour bank at about 300m stopped the old ED ford wagon. I did not attempt to "jump it", the old ford is just too long & low to get over the contour & then make it back to the road, in ONE peice!

Could be a bit hard to see but there are three levels, for the targets.

Rails & supports are a "work in progress" at this time.
But we can do.......................... 500m Fly!.

Managed to get a bit closer today but as we had up to 30mm over night it was a bit sloppy in places, even in 4x4 low range.

The benchs so far. Now the cattle are fenced out we can start to cleanup & re gravel the shooting bays.

Still have to sort out the silhouette rails/stands at the 500m, this could take a while as the ground needs to settle & stablise.
Will be chucking some grass seed about to lock up the soil & slow the errosion down.

We should be able to use it in August AND the 500 Fly targets have arrived! Looks like some star pickets will be used & the old military 4' targets (backwards, so only the white back shows) wired on - then the staple gun for the yellow & red Fly target.

Should have some at 300m as well.

We will need a lot of sighters (me anyway), as I havn't shot 500m since 2009 at Casino CSD Nationals (I think it was 2009, memory loss is a bugger).

Thought you were in doubt for this event...??

I'm even more ready in that I will be able to see this time. Finally after 6 months of painkillers the eyesight has settled down enough to get an eye test and today, new glasses so had to reset all the rifle scopes. Boy that makes a difference to the focus on a target. Also got measured up for a special prescription set of shooting glasses which means the focal point is shifted from centre to straight behind the Ocular Lens Exit Pupil, not a bad price of $39.00 all up with toughened shatter proof len's.

Now to get some load development done this Sunday at Mudgee and inspect the new earth works.

We need to come up with a match for it & ask for an update to the FAR licence - would only be allowed on a metalic templated range.

ex-reven did some "odd" match stuff write ups, I just have to get arround to checking with the FAR.

They specifically list what targets and what ranges you can shoot do they?

That's as part of the ranges license?

Yep, been watching the forecasts.

I'd say I am going to give it a miss this time, miserable outlook, people not turning up so my plans have taken a dive.

Unfortunately I ran out of time last Sunday at WRSC to get the load development I needed to complete so I'll substitute home on a nice day to complete that task and get ready for my competition shoot in a couple of weeks.

I can just imagine trying to set stuff up on the new 300 & 500 metre area in the mud and wet so maybe next time.

Other factors, with an injured foot walking around last Sunday didn't do me any favours even though it was handy to have nearly all the Wind Flags out and I'm still suffering from the dreaded Flu so ...wet weekend, wind .... I'll stay at home inside with a nice warm fire burning.

Maybe see you all in October... hope it's bloody warmer.

petemacsydney, we will be shootin' this weekend - stuff the weather.

I got a reprieve from a job I had planned for this Saturday - data cabinet change over, I can't get an optic fibre cutter & fusion splicer until next week & the fibre has to be ready before the cutover, so have posponed the job & will be out Saturday arvo (after PCYC archery) to do sum shootin'.

Also will run the Sunday benchrest. We will be setting up on range 2 from about 11.30am. Counting from the left side of the range, skip the firest 3 benchs, then
- 300m centrefire Fly, min. 3 benchs
- 200m rimfire Fly, min. 3 benchs
With whatever benchs are left over after the "organised shoot/event"
- any other distance from 50 - 300m, any range legal long arms for practice or sighting in.

ok thanks mate
i made a decision late last night to not come this weekend. with the weather looking a bit too ordinary for tenting and a few things going on at work, i think i'll save my frequent family points and come to the next one. its a real shame as i have been really really looking forward to this since June and now i have 300 clays sitting in my garage that will just take up space until the next Mudgee meet ;-(
Anyway, hope you guys have a great weekend. You just never know with the weather guys, it could all get blown through and you have brilliant sun shine!
So kill some paper and clays for me and enjoy the fun!!!
until next Mudgee meet...

Should be 17,18 & 19th October according to the calender.

http://www.ssaamudgee.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14&Itemid=117

I too was unable to attend as planned this weekend, vary bad dose of the Flu and bad weather forcast for camping so didn't want to risk turning my illness into a Hospital visit from playing out in the cold for a few days.
