Hi guys,

I haven't had a go at groups yet VIChunter. I was told last Wednesday night that I was to put one through each target, after I had put 2 in the first one lol (I was kind of hoping to go for grouping, but anyway).

As for my back, it doesn't hurt when I'm walking around, but it's sore otherwise. I have to take it slow, but it's definitely getting better, which is fantastic!

The Anschutz will be my dream rifle, if it's anything like what I've been shooting with lately. In saying that, I've never actually had to hold one up to my shoulder, so I'll try that out first. Hubby is more than a little happy with my shooting results, so he's already on the lookout for my next rifle (haven't got my first one yet!).

I was going to drop into Clayton Firearms on Wednesday, but I've had planned changed on me, so I'm going to head to Morwell and see if Alpine Country have the three rifles I want to have a look at.

I'll look for some earmould ear muffs. I can't stand the can ones, they get in the way.

Nice shooting, targets don't move so they will always be easier than shooting ferals.

If you are going to make target shooting a regular thing the Anshutz is the rifle to get, they cost more you can pass them down to your kids if they behave and avoid a criminal record, the other choices will not look as good on the range, the Anshutz 1416 has a 23 inch barrel so would have slightly more velocity over the shorter barrel other choices so they hit a little harder on the furry ferals.

I would put your car hobby on hold, you have the fox and wild dog bounty so the Anshutz could pay for itself if you pick a few of them off, sweet talk your hubby, lol.

You need to pick up each rifle to see how comfortable you are with it before narrowing the list down.

Ear plugs are ok for shooting 22lr.

Or nothing if everyone's shooting subsonics. ( IMHO ).

If someone's shooting HV ammo though chuck the ear plugs in. "Stingers" is the right label for those on the ears.

Wednesday just gone, I scored a 189/200 then 191/200. I'm still chasing 9 points, and I've picked up different tips from the guys. I'm not as consistent as I want to be, and scoring anywhere between 178 and 193.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm getting some coaching next week, so I'm hoping things go well. Apparently when I consistent shoot 194's or 5's, I'll get to move to the new targets.

Now, I'm just waiting for my license (my TRV membership pack came in the mail yesterday), and then I can finally get my rifle.

Don't stress.

Bit by bit the little things come together. Breathing, trigger pull, body shake on the rifle... They'll all upset things to start with but you crack them one by one.

Going to the range with the guys teaching me has shown me that there is SO much more than just "point and shoot".

My dad made it look so easy! lol

At least shooting has no real age limit. Everything else I've taken up I've had to give up for one physical reason or another. Even with my dodgy back, I'm able to shoot, so I'm happy lol

Unless you are rabbiting on a hilly property like I was this morning, no dramas shooting from the ute but you still have to get out and pick them up if you can't drive next to them ( I have one of those old persons grabber arms which I use out of the drivers window).

I get my new knee brace on Friday, the old metal one lasted two years. The new one is more soft wrap and the hinges are integrated in carbon fibre so I won't be able to hang stuff off it like my old one, but it might stop the kids referring to me as "mad max". Thank god for technology, with the brace I get out and hunt, stalk and even cut wood. Without it I would be on crutches.

But back on subject, shooting would have to be one of the most accessible sports for young or old, disabled and fit. It doesn't even discriminate between the sexes with women generally shooting better than men.

I went back to the range tonight (I love Wednesdays! lol) and shot another two cards at 50m.

1st card I scored 192/200,
2nd card I scored 193/200.

I can't seem to find those last 7 or 8 points, but I'm definitely getting more consistent. Again I had coaching, which is great, and some of the tips helped me a lot. Whilst sitting here typing this, and going over in my head what I was doing, I know a few things I'm going to work on next time out (2 weeks away).

Also, as I'm not supposed to do group shots yet, I used the sighting target and had a go. My plan was to try five shots, but I only got 4 in before I was told to move on.
Those 4 shots landed fairly well off centre, but I managed to get them to fit in a 5c piece. The second card, I was spotted after three shots, but they were 10c piece grouping, so I'm not unhappy with it.
See the two photo's below.

Nice shooting, you are doing fine,if you could shoot a few targets everyday you will improve faster than doing it once a week.

Hey Jenna. Don't get to hung about shooting groups. What your doing, shooting one bullet per target is same in my opinion . Your shooting better than me . When you get your rifle home and sighted, those foxes don't stand a chance. Cheers Brad

I figure that given I'll be going into town at least 3 times a week, I can go to the range and get in plenty of practice.

We've got cattle everywhere on our place at the moment (until just after christmas) so I can't really shoot here now.

But as soon as my licence comes through, I'll have keys to the range, so I'm set!

Hang on a second....

Unless there is really something weird about Victoria's Gun Laws since when can just anybody get a key to a Range, who is the Range Officer.... ??? Who is going to be in charge and be the responsible person for running the Range...???

Things are certainly different in NSW.

What happen to the Sheep and the RSPCA, what happened to the Contaminated Dam Water. How many Acres was that...!!!! Cattle everywhere, from memory the size of the place isn't big enough to have one Cow unless someone has a barn full of feed.

Hi Apollo,
I'll take this one by one.

I had to get rid of the sheep for the moment, due to the foxes, and the dam being contaminated by the ducks. The cattle belong to a mate of mine, and at present he has put quite a few on here to get the grass down. The grass is long enough that it is up to their beliies, and we have snakes coming up to the house again. At the moment, we've got cows in every paddock (5 paddocks - 7acres) which doesn't give me anywhere to shoot. The cattle will go when the grass is down to a manageable level.
By that time, my license should be back (along with the PTA) and i'll be able to buy my rifle. Regarding the dam, my neighbour has been shooting the ducks on his dams (one is close to ours) and we are only seeing three or four a day (for the past week or so) on the dam because of this (I assume that's the reason anyway).

The cattle are here short term. It rests his place, and gets the grass under control at our place. We don't have a tractor, slasher or anything like that, and given the lack of size to our property, no-one is really interested in cutting hay off it.

As for the range, I'll be meeting the range master at the range each time I want to shoot (we've agreed to two days a week). He'll be in charge, but I'm allowed to open the front door and put the kettle on. I wont have keys to the padlocks or locks on the two back rooms, just the club room. He's agreed to come and coach me twice a week, and I'll still have the Wednesday nights, so that's 3 times a week. He's also made the offer of me coming to the range when he goes there on the "off" days.

So, that's the story.

Sounds good... you had me worried.

Must be good ground as the best on the Tablelands around here is rated at 3 Sheep per Acre or 1 Cow per 10 acres for all year feed. Some do double that but it doesn't take much for them to be in trouble, big time.

BTW... I have 30 breeding Cows on 300 Acres of pasture. It costs a fortune to keep up the fertiliser spreading and during a dry time a lot of money buying in feed. But in really good times I simply lock up paddocks and let them seed and the dry feed rot down to provide mulch for the ground. That's enough for me over a couple of decades being permanently disabled.

We get incredible growth down here, and because we're in a gully of sorts, when my neighbor fertilises and it rains, we get it for free lol

I had 53 ewes and 11 lambs here last year and only needed to feed out in the last weeks of winter and early spring. I ended up selling all but 20, who hadn't lambed at that stage.

Me too vexesus, but it's proven quite profitable for us!

Slaughtered two lambs last year. They were four months old, and we took 17 kilo's of meat off one and 13 off the other.

This grass is goooooood! lol
