Know it alls at the range

Post by keen » 27 Sep 2013, 12:22 pm

Ok, so totally venting here. Turn back now if you don't want to take part in some group bitching...

Obviously this isn't exclusive to shooting, but god my local shooting range has some vocal d**kheads at it these days.

On my latest trip one guy in particular just couldn't leave anyone alone.

I was there for a couple of hours, and every time someone new was just about finished setting up at their bench he be there saying:

Pffft, why are you using a muzzle break...
What weight pills are you shooting... Those are too light...
Why'd you waste you're money on a that rifle... A tikka/ruger shoots just as well...
Japanese glass is a waste of money, you should have got a....
That's the wrong powder for this load...
Everyone should be able to shoot this... if not your just making excuses...

I reckon he only put about 20 shots down range, and lectured more people than that...

Seriously, if someone asks for some help or your opinion on something then go for it.
If someone's about to do something really stupid, say something.

Short of that, people need to learn to keep there opinions to themselves :x

/end rant

There no shortage of people who won't shut up about how good they are while doing bugger all actual shooting.

Best advise has already been given - Ear muffs on and keep shooting.

I'm usually shooting my .308 Ruger Hawkeye when I'm the the range (stock other than front recoil lug being bedded) and always get the "American/Rugers are s**t, you should get a Tikka/Euro, they're much more accurate" speech...

Best group I've shot with mine is 0.61". The criticism quickly turns into fumbling excuses about why their "more accurate" Tikka shoots 1" groups after hearing that.

(P.S. Not bagging Tikka, just an example :D)

Yep, and I hate the blokes that want to have a chat just as you have set up ready to have some fun, yes they are well meaning and just being friendly but for gods sake I am here to shoot and you are cutting into my time. If I wanted to socialise I would be in the clubhouse .

If you like my rifle/gun/pistol then come and have a chat when we are packing up for the day or at lunch, don't rob me of my noise making time.

And the blokes who just insist on correcting stance etc etc etc when they seemingly can't shoot for s**t themselves....grrrrr

Ceasefires are for talking. Hot ranges are for shutting the hell up :D
See you on the firing line.

That was this guy exactly.

Half a dozen times I heard him tell someone how he does 1500m iron sight shooting in the NT or somewhere, then make some veiled insult to the person he was talking to about them making excuses about their own accuracy - putting words in their mouth then bagging them out for them.

Half the people he was speaking to weren't even talking back and he'd keep flapping his gums at them till he ran out of things to say and wandered away.

And he'd show you except that he doesn't have that rifle there on the day and the range isn't long enough, right?
