American style shooting competitions?

Post by meateater » 14 Oct 2013, 1:53 pm

I don't know if "American style shooting" is the proper name for it...

The events I'm talking about are the cowboy style shoots where everyone dresses up in their full getup and has a bolt action rifle and revolver or two, and does a bit of a gauntlet through a target course for accuracy and speed.

Does anyone put that on in Aus?

I reckon it would be good fun, but I called a few of my local ranges and they sounded like they thought I was strange for asking

Anywhere?

Call your local SSAA branch/range and see what events they run.

They might not do the whole 9 yards with the outfits and everything, but they're not all ultra serious events for score.

They might do lever action silhouette or other "fun" pistol stuff as well as the serious timed/scored comps. The only thing to do is call and see.

I've been a bit slack and lost track of this since I posted it.

I'll give them a call though Tinked, thanks. I'm still keen to give it a try if I can find the right place.

Oh yes believe me they do go the whole nine yards even down to western names and silly outfits often a revolver on each hip.

Watched the vids. How could that not be fun! Gotta love the big recoil from the 45-90 Sharps! :-)
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.
