EOI-BIS500 Target Gongs Sydney

Post by Chronos » 09 Mar 2015, 9:44 pm

Hi All,

I have access to a flame cutting company that can cut 12mm BIS500 plates to any size I want. I spoke to them before Christmas about cutting some square target gongs with mounting holes but I didn't go through with it.

Some members here and friends elsewhere have shown interest in getting some. There are companies like STS that provide a quality product however for larger plates interstate shipping makes them quite a bit more expensive. For this reason I'd prefer them to be pick up from Sydney only at this stage

At this stage I'm looking for expressions of interest as to who would want what and what sizes and shapes are preferred. Once I get an idea what people want I can get prices and ask for confirmation and payment from members. Once payments are received the plates can be available in around a week.

All plates are 12mm thick BIS500 (AR500) While not specifically armour plate other plates I have tested stand up extreamly well to all but the extream velocity rounds. 22-250 and .204R will "crater" the plates under 200m but should be fine beyond that distance

These plates have two uses, a large plate, say 400mm at 200m is a great spotting plate so you can get a quick idea where your rifles shooting before starting load development where as a small plate, say 100mm can be a good hunting practice target, or simply a fun .22 target for the kids. You could order set, say a 100mm, a 200mm and a 300mm round plate and set them at 100, 200 and 300m for a days shooting at the farm or maybe set them all side by side at 500m and practice your long range shooting.

I'm also working on a portable gong frame that will hold your gong up off the ground and allow it to "ring" when hit. I'll be selling these once I'm happy with it's portability and durability.

To keep things simple I'll keep them metric (with an approximate imperial size) unless people specifically want plates cut to MOA equivilent sizes.

please specify size, shape and qty you'd be interested in.

So here are the options:

Round or Square/ Rectangular

50mm (2")
100mm (4")
150mm (6")
200mm (8")
250mm (10"0
300mm (12")
400mm (15")

VIC, depending on how much interest Chronos gets and therefore how quick he can make them, I may be able to help. My brother and I are planning a trip to Mitta for state forest pest hunting and I'm happy to play courier if it helps you to meet me somewhere near there or Wodonga? The trip is planned for end of April/start of may.

As per the other thread, 2 x 200mm circles and 2 x 400mm circles please. Also keen on the stands when you get them sorted mate. Cheers.

Ballpark would be based the quaint I got before Christmas on a small order

Approx $55 for a 400mm plate, $35 for a 200mm plate but it will depend on how many we get.

I'll either weld some chain links at the 10 & 2 position and hang them or weld a couple of pipes on the back so I can slip them over some RIO rod that's been hammered into the ground. I'm working towards a mount that's as close to idiot proof as possible cause it'll be a 3 km round trip to fix it.

Weddings no good mate, it's bound to fail whether it be in 10 rounds of 100. It's the vibration that cracks the welds.

I have D shackled through chain on mine. You could weld the pin in the shackle or use a weldable link but don't weld directly to the plate.

Chronos do you know what the plate sizes weigh?

I know your not keen to ship, might be nice to know though so people could work out shipping costs + a bit for your time to the post office?

Unless 100% not interested in shipping which is understandable, I know it's more of a hassle.

here, I weighed them for you :D ;

rounds
50mm (2") 0.2 kg
100mm (4") 0.7 kg
150mm (6") 1.7 kg
200mm (8") 3.0 kg
250mm (10"0) 4.6 kg
300mm (12") 6.7 kg
400mm (15") 11.8 kg

squares
50mm (2") 0.2 kg
100mm (4") 0.9 kg
150mm (6") 2.1 kg
200mm (8") 3.8 kg
250mm (10"0) 5.9 kg
300mm (12") 8.5 kg
400mm (15") 15.1 kg

This is based on a density of 7850kg/m3, this is for another brand of AR alloy, the BIS500 may be lower, shouldnt be any higher.

Thanks 1290, i just saw this.

I've used eGo courriers for this kind of stuff, more economical if you either pick up from the depot or drop them off....or both. I had a 1" plate shipped between state capitals, 12kg cost under $20 from depot to my door bat that makes each plate more exxy

If i go ahead with this i'm happy for buyers to sort out their own shipping and i will see if i can deliver to the appropriate depot
