Haven't been to the .22lr range for a month or so. Went for some practice and shot probably the best group I have with the rifle

4 shots here, shot with a Caldwell The Rock Junior at the front and a rolled up bit of foam at the back.

Saved the picture a bit too small to clearly see the holes vs ragged tearing but anyway... Thanks to Gherx and Chronos for the other topic which put me onto the OnTargetShooting software. Makes measuring easy

Pretty much.

There is a ruler tool you use to specify the scale of the target, you need to know the size of one thing on the target. e.g. 1" bullseye drag it over and tell the software it's 1". Doesn't have to be an even 1" though, can be whatever you know.

Specify the calibre and distance, click each bullet hole and it does the data and screenshot for you.

I see your point, but, have you ever tried it out? Not having a go at you, but, give it a go.

Try hitting a 5c piece dead centre at 50m ain't as easy as you may think, even with everything locked in. Gear still moves around on you.

I love blasting with my .308's, but BR .22 shooting is cheap (until you get hooked and start buying $2,500 rifles).

It certainly doesn't have the thrill of the hunt but it does have one or two up sides.
You ALWAYS get to pull the trugger and get a result.
You don't have to use a rest.
Plenty of self satisfaction, even if it's not as tight as Lorgar's a good shot on paper or pest always makes you feel good.

I have a .22, go the the range a fair bit and it's fun

When I said boring was strictly talking about the guys with the top-end 3 axis adjustable ones. Where they just turn dials and tap the trigger without even holding the rifle. Know what I mean?

Just seems like fiddling work, not fun or rewarding as such.

I'll say... When I was testing what ammo worked best the first half dozen I tried were not winners.

0.8" - 2" groups at 50m. I was getting somewhere between worried and pissed seeing the result

Heart rate halved when I finally got to the ones that did shoot well and showed I didn't get a lemon of a rifle for the money

I'm still learning and was curious to know if this would make you shoot this well?

Yes it can be a bit disconcerting when you shell out a heap of $$$ and it don't shoot as it should!

Pity about the flyer.

Leaning on a flimsy table, high tech rolled picnic blanket as a rest as the rifle doesn't have sling studs for me to chuck my bipod on.

The Tasco 6x scope is like looking through a bloody potato past 20 yards which doesn't help.

Need to make the time to get to little river and practice a lot more.
I sight in at an old quarry, but I don't want to push it too long.

No Joy, That was just completely a mistake on my part.

My regular scope has dials at the left, top and right. I got a new scope which only has them on the top and right. Because I was used to having a dial on the left I didn't even think to check and out of habit put the scope on 90 degrees the wrong way.

It meant that my up/down adjustments go left and right instead. And left/right go up and down.

Just a bone-head moment.

For 100m rimfire doesn't look too bad for shooting off a rocky table with a 'potato scope'

Mine there was shot in ideal conditions obviously. Very little wind on the day too.

I can tell you though I've shot some shockers when shooting from an uncomfortable position

Might have to try and shoot a 50m "sight in" group at the farm with my .22LR.
Haven't really tried to shoot a nice group with it before.
Mostly trying to improve my offhand bunny shots.

Best my 22lr mod 2 brno will do as about 1 1/4 inch at 100 yrds. But about to try out a few brands of ammo as soon as I get time.

I usually recommend SK Rifle Match or RWS club.

I've found both shoot good in just about everything.
