Awesome shooting with the Savage, looking at getting one of the mkii versions for my first rifle (probably towards the budget end unfortunately). Is 6x scope sufficient for 50m? Do you compete in any comps?

No mate never competed in comps ever (couldn't think of anything more boring and mundane to be honest) I just test a few diff ammo brands when I buy a new rifle to see what it likes then I buy up. The little 6x Tasco seems more than good enough for what I use it for (Bunny busting and ringing gongs when I want to have a bit more of a challenge at 200m+

I bought both Savages 2nd hand and both were used for target shooting from what the previous owners said, not sure what scope combos they had (A couple of those groups were from them and I've shot a few groups with it when I first got it and so did the daughters and they all managed very good groups with them too so they can shoot ok.

We only really use them to roll a few bunnies with or a few gongs and the occasional bunny head on a stick for practice out to say 80-100m.

There's a good reason to not break girl's hearts.

They'll put a 1 inch group through yours.

Interesting result on Sunday. at a training day. We were encouraged to try different finger positions on our triggers. Using front rest and butt in the shoulder. Reading from left to right the results speak for themselves.

G'Day Fella's,

Last weekend, I finally had a chance to try some of the new CCI A17 ammo out of the same CZ 453 .17 HMR.
Here is the only 5 shot group, I shot with this ammo (at 50 Meters)!

Geez ya had 200rnds homer, why only shoot one 5 shot group? Would have been great to confirm if it was one of those fluke groups or not.

G'Day Fella's,

Too bloody hard to find ANY .17 HMR ammo at present and also expensive BFS, even at my buy price!
This was still almost 50 cents a shot.
If it helps, there were around 8 Bunny's, that kinda formed my next group...........

LOL!

Homer, maybe you should use that ammo in the rifle it's " Optimized " for, you might get a better result than what the CZ can achieve   :sarcasm:

G'Day Fella's,

Thanks for the good laugh BFS and Strikey!
Unfortunately Strikey, I know what kinda shot I am (not very consistent), so getting a Savage A 17 rifle, would probably be a waste.......................
I just wonder, if the CZ shoots this ammo so well (with me operating it!), how much better would the "Optimized" Savage rifle actually be?

Finally got around to some ammo testing on my new (first gun) Savage BTVS 22LR.

Think I might try a front bag next time, when looking through the scope it would wobble slightly left <> right :unknown:

I shot this this morning with the Mrs' Zastava MPW/CZ99 with a fixed 6 power Nikko Stirling scope. Was shooting prone in the paddock with rear bag and camera tripod with cradle.

My Brno M2 yesterday off a wonky alluminium table. Measured 54 meters. Fairly sure I pulled the shot just out of the main group. I had been having trouble with the group size and a few flidrs. After a bit of experimenting a little pressure point under the barrel near the forend seems to have done the trick.

Another good game if your a smoker with a 22 we used to play in the paddocks was sit your own smokes on top of a post and try to open the pack flip top type . More fun than shooting empty cans but normally after you had emptied a few
rule 1 only shoot at your own smokes
rule 2 you could only have a smoke when you open the pack
dont know i could do that now the cost of smokes then was 40 c a pack
