Why target rifles are single shot only?

Post by paps » 07 Nov 2013, 7:38 pm

Hi guys,

Just wondering why a lot of proper target rifles are single shot only?

e.g. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/12FCLASS

Couldn't hurt to have a magazine in their and save some time instead of hand feeding them?

I'm not sure but I'v got a theroy on that one, Because target shooters cant take any chances with the recoil messing with thier projectiles seating depth.

The cartridges are often too long to feed through magazine too, no?

Without the magazine slot you get a more rigid action?

That was my understanding.

With a solid metal floor instead of the magazine slot, you strengthen that section of the action by 20% (or whatever it is).

It's not as bad as you would think, working the bolt to feed a round from a magazine upsets your position as much as single loading does. It may sound painful but isn't really all that bad.

The one thing that would s**t me to tears... I've seen a few videos of people at ranges (I think in the US believe it or not) where it was "range policy" than you had to hand feed rounds and couldn't use a mag

What a ridiculous idea... Thought up by some safety nazi who's never fired a gun in his life no doubt.
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?

Would have been put in place by some bureaucrat who didn't actually think it through, like all these things are...
