Installing Computerised Targets???

Post by Gwion » 12 Apr 2016, 5:49 am

Hey all. Down here in sunny and forward thinking Tasmania, some of us (our club) are still sending messages by carrier pigeon and actually paying people to manually check and mark targets at prize shoots. We have plans to grow the club, at which stage manual targets may become a hinderance to a smooth day shooting(it already is).

I'm wondering if any one here has experience installing electronic targets. I've met personally seen them in action so don't quite get how they work. So:
1/ where do you get them?
2/ what are various systems avalable?
3/ how involved is the installation?
4/ what is the ball park cost of a system?

Thanks for any input.

Check out this website. It's the unit they use at Hornsby rifle range and others.

http://www.hexsystems.com.au

The system plots each shot onscreen live via wifi and the data goes up to website and can be viewed and even printed out later. At Hornsby they use two little kids laptops for rack target. One for the shooter and one for the scorer. The scorer simply enters the shooters name, grade and rifle class (the site stores it for future reference) and the appropriate target appears on screen for that class, Fullbore, F open etc. shooter fires sighted, scorer asks If he wants to keep them and selects that on the computer. You shoot your 10 and refer to the screen for fall of shot. It's a cool set up and the designer is a great guy to boot. I can't imagine it's cheap though.

G'day Gwion,
Contact Hex Systems. Price varies considerably on what you need, 4 sensor vs 8 sensor etc. Talk to Bruce at Hex, they did Yunta, Orange, Belmont, and many others, Cheers.

Thanks No1.. Will look further into it. We are not a 'rich' club, so cost will be an issue, but there may be funding options as well, so.....

There's something special about a piece of paper that has 5 holes punched with precision , scored and dated.
They make wonderful keepsakes.

F-class isn't scored on individual targets. You'd need a very big filing cabinet. You can print out a plot sheet, which would save time and effort on the mound.

The Gunnery in south Australia has recently set one up.
I'm yet to see it but going by the pictures it looks blody amazing.
Perhaps you could get in touch with the owner.

Have a look at the set up of their fb page
