Punching paper or cardboard?

Post by HulkFury » 26 Jul 2016, 11:09 am

Hi, I've just got my first rifle (22lr), and wanted to get some targets to help with grouping/ammo choice. Is normal paper suitable or does it rip/tear too easily?

Paper taped onto cardboard or ply works best. After a few holes the paper gets flimsy. Also doesn't resist the wind all that well.

The shooting range I attend uses corflute to pin on the targets, so shouldn't have any wind issues.

I normally use plain A4 paper taped on all 4 corners to a good backing like a pizza box, beer carton, thin ply wood.

If I feel like getting fancy I've got some thicker card that I can print them on. It doesn't move about in the breeze and the holes punch out cleaner.

I like cardboard better than paper I use orange stick on dots with a black plus sign drawn on the (like xhairs) works great when load testing as u just line you xhairs up with the lines on the Orange dot

I'm going to try and get some printed on cardboard at Officeworks, it's like 20c for A3 size.
