SSAA St Marys Pistol Club (NSW) - Members Chat

Post by Wylie27 » 13 Aug 2016, 11:11 am

Hi all,

I hope this thread is ok with Admin of this site.

Thought we could have a thread for the St Marys Pistol Club members, a place to chat up, organise meets, talk about competitions, shoots etc and general stuff relating to SMPC.

Would be cool if we had a bit of a roll call for members and maybe we can build up a membership post. if you are interested in this shout out that you are a member and what disciplines you shoot there.

The current shoot calendar is located here

http://www.stmarysindoorshootingcentre.com.au/admin/_files/pages//1470033419_aug16-sept16_newsletter_calendar.pdf

This also can be used for anyone looking for information on how to join etc..

Cheers
Jase

Good idea Jase, I'm sure there's a few others on the forum who belong to SMPC.

They use the pistol range and set all the targets / courses up there. There's quite a large store room to the side of that range that has all many of targets and barricades that can be used. Probably not as good or challenging as some of the outdoor ranges but being indoors it can run of an evening and isn't affected by rain.

So Brett, No steel? I imaging every target ha to be shot down range. Does that mean lots of shoot boxes to engage targets from?

When I was shooting a bit of IPSC and steel match a few mates and I used to rent one of the ranges at Aubirn and set up targets at the bottom of the range and shoot boxes from 25m forward. One thing we found was the floor was really slippery.

I'm only running a revolver in service at the moment but thinking of getting another auto 9mm

They have the knock down steel targets and as thought, shooting is done down range with the use of boxes and frames. They mix up the distances and firing positions to add challenge and to keep it interesting. I've completed the IPSC accreditation just a few weeks ago so haven't had a chance to have a shot yet. Might have to get in touch with pomemax and ask him to show me the ropes :D

Sounds like a plan and if I don't go tonight I'll join you tomorrow for sure. Picked up a new 44Mag and 9mm I'd like to get zero'd and familiarise myself with.

I shot Saturday afternoon just for fun with a mate of mine. He picked up 3 new pistols, Browning Buckmark, 627 S&W .357Mag & a Walther Q5 Match so we had to break them in :) The Buckmark was quite impressive and leaves the Ruger for dead in my opinion but doesn't feel as nice in my hand as a Beretta 87.
Thinking to shoot Rimfire Silhouette tomorrow night if anyone's keen, need to get management approval first as I've shot a few nights this week already and she's looking pissed.

I was already denied that pass. Lol

Rimfire silhouette is a lot of fun.. It's the feedback you get when you hit something..

The damn chickens at 10 metres lol.

There's a Barricades shoot in 2 weekends time I am interested in

Wylie27, I shot the rimfire silhouette comp tonight and you're right, it's a huge amount of fun and I was surprised just how far the little metal targets can fly. I had to buy a brick of ammo as all I had was hollow points and having to shoot the first set at 25m with ammo I haven't used before was a bit of a challenge and I only knocked down the 1 Ram. I managed to score a respectable 19 from a possible 40, even had a perfect 5 on the Turkeys. The chickens were the easiest for me, scored 8 from 10 on them as the Beretta will group 1" at that distance. I'm going to get my thumb out of my ass and make an appointment with my optometrist to get some new glasses made. My sight is failing at short range so using open sights I'm essentially lining up 2 blurs on the target. Once the glasses come I should hopefully do better then 19.
After the comp I went over to range A and did some shots at 25m, 15m & 10m so now I know where the pistol is shooting I won't need to guess next round. I'll make an effort to shoot the Barricades event in a couple weeks just to catch up with you and put a face to a name.

Took the Korth PRS to see how it shot with some factory ammo - I pulled 1 but the rest grouped quite well. I'm in lust with this pistol, if it wasn't illegal and the wife allowed me I'd sleep with it under my pillow :D

Nice shooting there.

Lol yeah my first silhouette match my pistol was dialled in for point of aim at the 6 ring.

First set was the Rams and I missed all of them!

I don't know why but it just brings a huge smile to my face when the chickens fly back several metres lol

Brett, my distance vision is failing me and I have contacts made up.

Problem with distance glasses is affects your near vision..

So my optometrist and I have been working on adjusting the focal point and the focus of the contacts and the overall focus.

Work in progress

On another note, does anyone know a supplier of 9mm projectiles.... Seems all my locals are out

Pomemax,

Thanks for the heads up on top shot projectiles. I did not even think to check at St Marys. Ohh that's funny being made on Glossip st.

In the last 12 months my distance vision is getting worse.. So with the stronger contacts, my reading goes out the window.. It's great lol

Think you may have meant Top Score http://www.topscore.com.au/. I spoke to them a few months back about placing a bulk order and the quantities have to be in the vicinity of 100,000+ for them to consider it. They also have a major backlog of orders to fill so it could take several weeks for them to fulfill orders. I bought 5000 147gr 38Spl recently which will last a while but I desperately need 9mm / 38 Super...

If you are going to Grafton for the IPSC match next weekend then contact Susan Island (https://www.facebook.com/susanislandbullets/) about picking some up at the match.

I am picking up 2000 x 135gr 9mm RN for $226.
