Big bore rifles - Hunter Valley

Post by Willem van Heerden » 16 Sep 2016, 2:25 pm

Hi,
To my understanding none of the rifle ranges around the Newcastle /Hunter area allows magnum calibers over 8mm?
Does anybody know more about this? And where could I sight my rifle in? As it is illegal to do it in State Forrests and im not keen on drawing such attention.
Im knew in the area and don't have any contacts.
I own a .375 H&H and don't need more that 100m!
Advice would be appreciated

No it's not legal to sight in in NS state forests unfortunately like in Vic,

"to your understanding?"

Have you actually asked any of the ranges or are you going off rumour?

What's your .375H&H? got any Pics? ;)

awwww I got all excited when I read big bore....375 is medium, some say small :P

For the girly boys.... 6 to 6.5mm shooters are all the rage.... apparently...some now even hide the fact that they own such cannons :unknown:

But yes, in vic its free range out in the bush, I assume thats what stevie wonder meant.

You could always take a short 7hr drive to the border

*sigh*

I don't know about NSW but so over all this 'maximum calibre' bulls**t that permeates all our firearm laws/range policies.

Like the diameter of a projectile is the be-all-and-end-all.

Are they worried the .375 H&H is going to go through the mountain that the 300 Win Mag wont?

Bloody nice rifle you have there Willem!!!
Been around for a hundred or so years and still regarded as on of the best all round big game cartridges there is.
I'm a few hours north west of the hunter and we have the same bulls**t regs on the over 8mm gear at most ranges here as well!!!
Having said that,We do have one range close to here were we are welcome to go and shoot ( Legally ) the bigger gear out to 1000 yrds if you want.
If you're a SSAA member and still looking pm me and I will have a yarn to you about it!!
Mick.
