Archery Question

Post by Die Judicii » 06 Feb 2017, 9:45 pm

Seeing as there is no topic/section dedicated to archery, I pose my question here.
Move it if you will Mods.

Are any members here well versed/knowledgable in "Long Bows" / "Recurve Bows" ?

I am seeking information on a particular Bow.

Nope.
I bought myself a 60lb compound bow just for messing about with.
Think I've wound it down to about 25lb and it's still extremely hard on my messed up right arm and shoulder :-)

No level of knowledge at all on the sport or the equipment but it's something I think I'd take more interest in if not for the pain.

Personally no, however I do have a colleague with a number of recurve bows who's very into it.

Happy to relay a few questions and answers.

The bow is a "White Wing" and is 64" from tip to tip.
I googled "White Wing" long bow,, and came up with cheap Chinese stuff called White Bow.

It was left to me when my brother passed away.
My brother never ever bought cheap stuff, in fact all his life if he couldn't afford "top shelf" stuff he wouldn't buy at all.

This particular bow is cased in a timber case, along with a huge collection of arrows and associated accessories.
Apart from "White Bow" which is written (under the coating) there is like a coat of arms depicting a White Wing with the words
"Wing Archery".

On the opposite side there is what appears to be ink writing (under the coating) that says,,,
90"
WA1018
37 off

Nowhere can I find any reference to being made in China or PRC

I am actually wondering if it may have been a special order and hand made.

Any info would be appreciated.

Firstly, it is not a Long Bow, it is an old Re-curve Target bow. 1970's to early 80's perhaps.
Haven't personally heard of the brand. Numbers don't make sense though. Usually marked with draw weight in lbs. @ draw length in ".
Sometimes with string length also.
Target bows were not usually of high poundage, so the 37 could be the draw weight or the string length.
Looks very similar to a bow my Aunt used back in the day.

Okay, so intrigue got the better of me . Done some "research", looks like it may be from the 60's, made in U.S.A by a fella named Bob Lee. He pioneered the take-down re-curve bow. Looks like the Wing company made some pretty good bows and sold out in the late 70's.
