DIY self healing targets?

Post by Carter » 09 Jul 2017, 5:02 pm

I reckon there must be something you can get at Bunnings or some plastic place that works as good at bought self healing targets.

So you're buying just a bit of plastic, instead of a premium target.

Any suggestions?

Pretty much anything durable and rubbery would work with varying success I would think. To be self healing it would need some degree of elasticity.

I got some about 5mm thick rubber matting that's about 10cm wide from Clark Rubber and wrapped it in a few layers around a can, has worked great for the rimfire.

I do 2 layers. When it has a tonne of holes you can just rotate one layer and between the two bits it all seals up again and you're looking at a solid target again.

My personal preference here, but any reason you don't just go with an appropriate size gong?

Healing doesn't matter when it's too tough to hurt ;)
