Just out of curiosity, I don't suppose you know how long the danger zone has to be for a .50 cal range?

Is it different for .338 Lap and .50 cal?

New forum, same old story on the "other" forum IMO.

I gave it up a few weeks after it went online.

Better guys here ;)

Are they still going on with the tikka vs howa crap? We're a lot of threads that are good turn into a tikka/howa debate.

I haven't read it for a while as I said, but when I quit it was the same people sniping at each other.

Same little bitching circles jumping on people for having a different opinion.

I have not done the full calculations for either. From what I have heard (now theres a loaded, hear-say) the .50cal has be done in by the .338Lap due to new projectiles for the .338 which are very slippery. We would be looking at stopping the highway traffic just to take a shot (rough calculactions) because even the .50cal get to 4km with reasonable accuracy.

I suggest you look at the NSW Police Firearms web site, where there is a .pdf wrt: range setup & calculations. If I find it again, I'll post the link.

We've only got 10,000 acres or 4,400 Ha. - it's about 7km or so, at the longest, so we 'ain't gunna get the big stuff', even assuming you could see the target over/through the hills.

Oh ok , some things never change. Might drop in to the range in April. I've got a week long shoot on & haven't decided we're to go yet. Bit cooler that time of year as well.

Five local clubs & a training organisation have their "range time" committen to the Complex & with five distinct ranges, which effectivly have independant 'danger zones'. We 'aint't gunna' chance doing the wrong thing. It's too much to loose for one wrong shot.

The fourth Sunday of the month in April will be your best bet, got our ANZAC shoot on & might have enough RO's to open the 500m 'sillywet' range.

The number of RO's you have on determines how far you can shoot too?

The number of RO's prefered locally for a range is two or more, can get away with one but its not nice.
To open a second range I would like to see two more RO's on hand at that range.
The 500m Silhouette range is 2.5km from the 300m Range 2 that we use for our ANZAC shoot.

Understood. I was just curious if it was a legal requirement that you have to have X number of range officers for certain distances or something like that.

Hey hilux, just confirming my wife and I will be attending the shoot there on the 18th and 19th of January.

Will be nice to spend the weekend camping, shooting and meeting other nsw shooters.

Is there any point bringing my shotgun or is it just rifles?

Bring along the 'scatterguns' for after 4pm - an "unnamed" someone is sure to have turned up with a few boxs of clays. Last I heard we could have a few of the local auto throwers but not confirmed as yet.

Don't forget the ammo, we had one couple drive to Rylstone to buy more ammo on the Sat. morning of a previous shoot (only brought 100 rnds with them!)

Could be some "different challenges" over the course of the weekend, with a variety of longarms & pistols.
Just remember - bring plenty of ammo.

No shooting for me there, beer only! I still don't shoot ranges unless I have no choice. We have a property up there to shoot on, so we will do that then come have a look.

As Chronos commented, if any one is intending to turn up & wants to be fed (Saturday lunch = snags, dinner spit roast 'at least 2 dead animals, probably lanb & pig, lunch Sunday & maybe some other nibblies). Let me know by the 10th January 2014.

Most important - BYO GROG! We are at least 1/2 hour from any re-supplier!

Secondary - most important, bring plenty of ammo.

Once the guns & ammo are secured, the b'sh*t starts.

We do have some coherent discussions - rail guns, how much powder can you "really" fit in a XXX case & still seat the projectile, etc. And a 'white board' is available for the diagrams & calculations..........

"copy & paste" starts here from the foood & otherwise organiser ------------------
Hey everyone,
We are now in the act of finalising the attendance list for the Forum Shoot Event on the 17th. If everyone could RSVP by Friday the 10th Jan, we will then create a final costing on food for the weekend. Currently in terms of costs for the weekend:

Range Fees: $40 (for the 3 days)
Food: $20 per person for the weekend, includes:

Saturday Sausage Sizzle Lunch

Saturday Dinner:
Pork and Lamb on the spit
Mash potato, peas. corn on the cob and salad

Sunday Breakfast: Pancakes with maple syrup and strawberry jam

Sunday Sausage Sizzle Lunch

If anyone has anything they would like to see added, or have special dietary requirements please PM me.
Other than that, please RSVP by Friday the 10th Jan.

I'll see you at the range.
-------ends here-----------

Please advise me (Hilux2003) either here or by PM if you are comming along.
The main organisers need to know how many to cater for in the way of food, targets are easy to sort out, food we have to think about!

One of my mates from "south of Sydney" and a regular Service rifle & pistol shooter also has a .4XX big game thingy, if you are still standing after squsing the trigger = plus, if you actually hit the target = even better............. bluddy good gun.

Turn up if you can - you get to try all sorts of guns, both rifle & pistol (permits on the day, if not licenced).

Look at www.ssaamudgee.com.au web site for location. I think it's got the GPS stuff, I'll check in the next few days & update if it's not there. Hopefully!

here's a few pics from the weekend, I tied to check with as many people as we could to make sure if its Ok to post their pics.
If anyone wants their pic removed, PM me and it will be done.

It was great weekend, everyone had heaps of fun, some experienced a few new disciplines and loved it.
We only had about 20 people turn up due to the expected 38-41 deg heat and the event being so close after Christmas/new year.
Although it was a fairly warm weekend, we had a nice breeze and a few light showers close enough to cool us right down but not get any rain.

i'm told they are already working on the next one, i'm sure hilux2003 will let you know what they come up with soon.
