Thinking of getting rid of the centrefire for rimfire only

Post by rigatoni » 02 Jan 2014, 10:43 am

Hi all,

I'm rolling this around in my head and wondering if anyone has done the same.

I live on the wrong side of the city here in Melb and getting out to Little River takes me an hour. I don't get out there very often as it takes up nearly the whole day if I want to go to the range with my centre fire rifle.

I feel like my rifle is just sitting in the safe going to waste a bit of the time...

I'm been thinking about getting rid of it and getting a 22LR instead so I can go to the ranges which are just 10 minutes away from me. There are plenty of those.

I don't know if I'll regret selling my centre fire rifle though...

Anyone gone down this road? Did you regret it after?

Dont worry about an hour of travel time! Everywhere in country Vic is an hour away! The two ranges I shoot on are both 90plus kms away! Yes you will regret selling!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Personally I wouldn't.

This is for your .270 Savage I guess?

The way I look at it is this...

Having that rifle in your safe will last you a life time. Whenever you need it, it'll be there.

If you sell it you'll get a grand or whatever. A thousand bucks isn't exactly a life changed in the grand scheme of things. I'll just sit in your bank or pay some bills or whatever... Won't really help with much.

I'd keep it and get yourself a 22 as well.

No need to sell the .270 first though, right?

Why not buy your 22LR now see how it goes before you do anything else.

If in 6 months you're loving range time with the 22, then maybe look at selling your .270

I definitely wouldn't sell it first in the hope you won't want it any more. You might get the 22 and be bored with it before you know it...

Vati's got it.

A handful of cash will disappear in a heartbeat and you won't even notice you had it.

The first time you have an opportunity to use the .270 and it's gone I reckon you'll regret it.

I'd definitely keen at least one centre fire calibre rifle.

A 22 is fine obviously but quite limited.

I reckon you'll regret it when you do miss out on opportunities to take out the .270.

I've ended up keeping it.

I'm sure you guys are right. I don't miss it now but the instant I sell it I'll probably want it back
