Gun World Sale 25-27th

Post by jaydos » 26 Nov 2016, 5:16 pm

Has anyone else been in to have a look/bought anything online.
I went in yesterday after work and bought a few thousand .22 rounds and a Franchi Phoenix 30" as a clay gun(something im looking forward to getting into)
Thinking of getting a tikka t3x varmint stainless in .223 with the 1/8 twist tomorrow while they have their 10% off, it also comes with a free airgun as part of the deal. I cant afford to get a scope just yet though so will likely just be buying it to sit in the safe for a while until that comes to fruition.

If its your only centrefire go 243 ,223 is light on for most things past dog size you can get more versatility from a 243 its a hammer for almost anything inside about 200m without the recoil.

.243 might be more versatile, but if your gonna use it for specific hunting (like foxes foe example) or just fun at the range then go with the .223 because it's cheaper.

If you plan on plinking any volume of rounds, you're probably gonna need to consider handloading for the 243; it's a versatile little cartridge though if you do end up down that route.
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

Wouldn't mind getting a .308 eventually as well which was why I was initially leaning the .223 that and ammo is a bit cheaper isn't it?

Yes 223 ammo is relatively cheap; keep your eyes peeled for bulk ammo deals on places like used guns, prices are often well under $1 a round. 223 is a must have long term, whereas a 243 is a bit more specialized. Owning a 223 and a 308 covers a lot of bases - ammo for both is relatively cheap. handloading for the 308 is also bags of fun if you ever get into it.

I end up at the QGE sale, bought some of the more expensive projectiles for my 9.3x62 @20% off, got Barnes 250gr BT 50pk and woodleigh 286gr PP 50pk, saved $20 on each

Recommend it for what? They're pretty different cartridges.

.223 ammo is about 2/3 the price compared to .308, yep.
