anyone else like beat up guns?

if the condition says fair meaning just cosmetic issues but the gun and rifling is good, I have no problem picking up on occasional bargain. Blokes who like completely pristine guns or worry about 'safe dings' etc is something that works in my favour picking up bargains others might not like. Just picked up a browning slide action 22LR that shoots great but almost no blue left on it , for $300
And a Boito 410 SXS with some rust and stock dings but tight lockup, for $300. Can the rabbits tell the difference?

No they cannot. One of my favourite guns is an anschutz 22 that looks absolutely frigging terrible but shoots so nicely its insane. Used to be dads dads.

My mate bought a Browning Trombone and didn't like the worn bluing and battered wood, so he cold-blued and oiled it, with no disassembly. My Win94 .30-30 is browned but is mostly worn through, he keeps wanting me to cold-blue it, and keeps threatening to take the Uberti home and spend a night polishing the brass

His Trombone has issues. The slide about 50% of the time doesn't unlock so he has to open it manually, and about one fired case in every tube will stick in the chamber and need to be levered out with a knife. His Mossberg 341 is a beauty though, for a quarter of the price of the Trombone. It has an interesting rear sight that you can use as a notch or as an aperture, though not at the same time. He'd love some extra mags if anybody knows of some.

A few months back while riding along a red soil gibber track in the dark my rifle fitted with pulsar thermal somehow bounced out and I ran over the top of it with my quad . So I guess you could say my howa is a bit of a beat up gun ….. no poi shift

Lol fair point BLR. A long time ago I left a cheapo marlin 22LR on the roof of my car and drove off. The road chewed the stock a bit and bent the bolt but it still shot as well, or badly depending how you look at it, as before

I have the 2-7x32mm Scout scope on it at the moment but that's coming off very soon. I'll remove the Williams aperture as well, don't need sights for Cowboy shooting. I'm practicing speed. I'm doing well with the .22LR, come up and put five hits on five targets in around 2.5 seconds, and five double-taps on five targets in around six seconds (I don't have the rhythm yet, I keep dropping the hammer before the bolt is fully forward). But it's a different story with the .38's due to the recoil and the long lever throw. So I'm practicing with the Uberti and the Rossi to see which I can run faster. Loading Cowboy loads will also help, 400fps doesn't make much recoil

I work with a bloke who won’t even handle his guns without wearing gloves. Proper OCD about rust, dings, scratches, scuffs etc etc.


Apart from a few collectable guns on my collecter licence I treat all my guns like a red headed step child.

I kind of like them if they are cheap. But for me its a chance to try out restoration methods without fear. if its cheap and looks crap there is no risk really it should only get better if not you learn not to do that method again. Wood is a remarkable thing to make look again however some structural issues can never really be fixed.

When I first looked at the heading of this topic I thought you were having a dig at the used guns site.
I have heard in the past of grumblings concerning the accuracy of descriptions. (which is the responsibility of the advertiser)
I myself have bought quite a few via this site,,,,,,,,,,, and touch wood,,, havent yet been unhappy or ripped off.
I am fastidious with my longarms,,, but not ridiculously so.

Another site that I have bought through and have been pleasantly surprised by descriptions accuracy,, is Cleaver Firearms.
