Picked up the new rifle today.

Post by Die Judicii » 14 Jul 2025, 9:01 pm

Picked up my new Verney Carron Speedline .308 today.
The email notifying the PTA approval came on Friday, and was recieved by my store today.
Can't complain about the wait time.

From what I can deduce from an hour playing around with it and a snap cap,, it's definately different, as in being neither a bolt action, pump,
lever action or semi auto.
But certainly has promise to make a difference on mobs of oinkers as opposed to the other actions readily allowed these days.
(wish I still had my semi)

I have an Aimpoint red dot that I purchased new 8 year ago and only used for a short time, that I might put on it while I get used to the Lever Release concept.
But, after that I'll most likely put a Zeiss Duralyt that I have spare,, on top of it.
Reason being, I can't put my thermal clipon on the Aimpoint.

When I get to playing with it out field, I'll see how it likes the HP reloads that I have for the dogs.
If it spits them out reliably, it'll be an added bonus for dogs also, other than oinkers.

I've been told about a new property and owner that I've never shot for before that apparently has large numbers of dogs.
A mate of mine gave the owner my contact details, and now just waiting for him to contact me.

Did you go with the synthetic or walnut Die Judicii ?

The walnut stocks are like rocking horse sh!t to get. So i went with the spastic plastic. I still would have preferred timber, but it is afterall just a “tool to be used”. Pics soon.

That muzzle brake is one of those radial ones, like come on some the Sakos. Be interested on how it feels in comparison to without it.

My 300 Peak is WAY nastier than my 300 Hunter timber, but with the brake it's like a 243.

Interestingly, I see in the (limited) literature that came with it, the frogs say the muzzle break is "glued" on.
And to take it off requires "indirect" heating.

So i'm guessing the thread has got pretty lazy tolerances, and they banged it on with LocTite.

Hey that's a bugger.
At least you won't lose it!
Better bring whack on some electronic muffs.... But the massive frosts we've been having in the southern Downs the last week means I spose they'll be glued to your head all night chasing them dogs anyway...
