Good to see Hornady plugging the gap between the 223 and the redundant 22-250

I like the idea of a fast twist 224 cal designed around the Mini short action like what Howa already offers.

High BC & Fast twist should make this a popular plinker out to 500m

Might have to get myself a reamer and run it in my Howa Mini 223.

why not just get a 1500 in 22-250? then handload any number of VLD pills. Seems more suited to the AR market.

Here we go again with another re-invention of the wheel. Hornady jumping in "plugging the gap?" after shoving over the 22PPC, 223 WSSM, 22 Reed Express, 22 Waldog, 22 BR Rem etc etc. can only see another barrel burner doomed to a flurry of excitement then dropping off the Super Short Magnum cliff.

No doubt it is a high performance cartridge but the drawbacks will be , Expensive ammo , Expensive empty cases , Risk that Hornady could just drop it one day . You might be locked into using expensive High BC bullets for best results because the chamber is cut for them . Also will burn the barrel quicker than a 223. However if none of that worries you then it would be a nice shooter .

You'll need a much tighter twist-rate than .22-250 is usually offered in, they're usually 14" or 12" twist, and the cartridge is too long for the AR15.
The .22-250 has a bit more taper than the .308, will it run through an AR10 magazine?

i meant this new 22 ARC cartridge is an AR cartridge (unlike ye olde 22-250). you are right about twist though; would have to be factored in

Does this offer any advantage over .223 though?
The ELD-VT looks interesting, though I'm not sure it offers anything over the ELDM or ELDX.

Curious to see what the bc is when they figure that out - i daresay it won't be better than the 69gr smk (and clones), but we shall see. Same sh1t different smell. Just watch the wind. Why can't people do that?

So I already run a 6mm ARC pushing 103gr ELD-X at 2820fps out to 500m, top little round with bugga all recoil.

Now the 22 ARC can push a 88gr ELD-M at exactly the same speed 2820fps but with better BC, seems like a now brainer to me

The new rem comes with a 1:8 twist and I heard a rumer that you can get a tikka in 1:8 but don't know if true

Just a gee up but the 6mm sorta do a better job

I cant really see the point. The 223 is so versatile. You can load it from whoa to go just how you like it. Twist rate barrels exist for whatever length and weight bullet you would like to choose. Personally I think the heavier are really only suitable for target shooting and not really necessary in the calibre for other purposes. They really only got heavier to provide an edge over other competitive shooters.

May have some relevance in the US but in Australia it has nothing to offer over existing 22 centerfire calibers and in some comparisons may even be a step backwards.
Nevertheless, some hype consuming starry eyed newbs might lap it up.

A few mates run short barrelled 223 AI's for culling and this would be a small step up again. I agree it offers little over other cartridges but having owned a 20 inch 22-250 once never again, where as I could see this 22 ARC being quite handy as the 75gr will buck the wind a whole lot better than a 223 that has trouble pushing them out fast enough. There's always an answer to the a question you're not asking

I like it! Im ordering me a 22ARC as well as a 20ARC reamer. I love my 204 to bits - kinda worried that I might like the 20 ARC to much.

In a positive sign we may actually see some 22 ARC stuff in 2024, Herron's had Hornady brass and reloading dies already in the system so I whacked a deposit on 100x brass and a 2 dies set.

Any tips on a Rem 700 based 22 arc build?
More specifically..the bolt face may need to be a PPC size? Or Sako or M16 extractor?
It looks as though a MDT ARC mag might do the job.

Purpose...for foxing ...low recoil, low powder use...high BC bullet, 62gn eld vt..good for wind deflection with decent trajectory it seems

Hey Foxshooter no idea on the 308 face coming down with the extractors, I just had my 223 bokt face opened up an just some minor massaging of the extractor got it working. Case efficiency is a major plus along with lower recoil and noise.

Righto, this is what I am doing.
22.250, Krico, the chassis is a Night Fury, that I had made in South Africa, it is very nice. I am building a varmiting rifle, I have had the 22.250 for years. I am having a few feed issues with the magazine, originally the maker of the chassis supplied me with .308,10 round, AICS, steel mags and these are giving me feed issues when loaded with 5 rounds or more.
Are there any gunsmiths here that may offer a solution, I am in Perth.
I am prepared at this stage to rechamber the rifle to another caliber to solve the issue as now I am a $grand into the project. I dont want to spend more money on a fly by night caliber, here today, gone tomorrow.
Does anyone know if another rifle action is similar or the same as a Krico 22.250, but a different caliber, that I may consider to mount in the chassis in view of changing calibers?
Hope someone can offer some suggestions.

I was initially more interested in 22 250 and poo pooed the idea of the arc.
Ive been led to believe the arc uses less powder, has lower pressures and longer barrel life and isn't too far behind the 22 250. Plus the arc case more easily accommodates the longer high BC pills..compared to 22 250 for mag and action length.

Maxy, there are specific 22-250 ACIS mags (specifically for 22-250, NOT 308) available made by MDT, to suit chassis stocks inletted for them.
Maybe you could try them.

Yeah I know now. Bought two of them and now have no feed issues. Gave the .308 mags to my young bloke. Also let the maker of the chassis know and sent him the part number of the mag, might save someone else some grief.
