Anyone's thoughts on these?
Look like a good hardy rifle. Just a model 700 without the bling.

Unsure if these were part of a recall due to rifles going off without explanation (faulty trigger?). Google not giving a clear answer here. Only made for a few years in the 80's so may have missed all this.

Cheers

Basic Rem 700, same action and trigger with cheaper parts like the rear sight etc and in a stained Birch stock. Nothing wrong with Birch for a stock and some owners actually liked them more than the 700 stock. They filled the niche for a budget rifle when the 788 was discontinued. Never heard of any trigger issues other than owner tampering. Would be a good rifle at the right price.

I had one for years the only issue I had was the trigger was really heavy I had it replaced with a timney then I got a bdl of the same caliber.
standard 700 parts did interchange and the gun did shoot very nice it did not have a floor plate to unload.

Think that may have been another reason to keep it as a budget model (e.g. blind magazine). Which,to be honest, is again another positive. No fiddling around with magazines or floor plates.

From all accounts, they seem good shooters.
