The sound of an M1 Garand

There's just something about the sound after the last round is fired and the clip is ejected with that ping.

*ping* makes you feel warm and fuzzy :D

To paraphrase Duke Ellington: "It don't mean a thing (If it don't got that Ping).

My father a World War Two veteran, US Army, Pacific Theater of Operations, 11TH Airborne Division, Stationed in New Guinea with in combat in the Philippines. Dad did tell me of the Japanese Army and Naval Infantry knowing of the M-1's sound upon ejecting the empty enbloc clip and with them, the Japanese forces, trying to take advantage of the temporarily empty M-1 rifle. What became quite common amongst American servicemen was them carrying an empty enbloc clip, which they would toss on the ground, making that metallic "ping", and draw a Japanese soldier out in the open to be shot.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

I reckon you'd have another one in there pretty quick anyway. It's not like all the blokes in the trench all pinged at once. Synchronised pinging?

Myth? It would have to be quite peaceful battlefield to hear that ping over normal battle sounds. Would you rush a foxhole on thinking you may have heard a sound?
