Look what I just bought my Daughter

Should suit her well (she likes her sisters one so when I saw this I thought why not - for $450 posted (no scope or mounts) includes the EGW rail, 5rd and 10rd mag, gun bag, Rifle Basix Adjustable Trigger - also had about 2 or 3" lopped off the barrel.

This one has been used for target shooting (previous owner upgrading to a Anshultz) so no longer needed.

This one will be used for shooting bunnies and practing on gongs and spinner targets etc




Seems to shoot alright too (CCI Standards) as does the one we already own.

Cheers Baldrick, the Daughter doesn't know she's getting it yet, I;ll keep it a surprise for her when she comes home from school. The other Savage Mk 2 we have shoots groups like that with the CCI Standard Velocity (seem most Savages like them) which is good as they are cheap to buy and still kill bunnies well. The other one likes the Win PP Subs, with a bit of luck this one will too.

Hint: Their arms need to be long enough to shoulder the stock and reach the trigger! It would depend on the kid I guess, mine's just turned 16 and is mildly interested.

I started before my arms were long enough for the stock so I earned my first weatherby eyebrow from a 22!

Sorry mate I just realised I put down it had a Timney Trigger, its got a Rifle Basics Adjustable Trigger , but by the sounds of it it's nice and light (fully adjustable) so depending on how it is I might have to put a bit of pull weight back into it to make it a bit easier for her to use.

They are a good little rifle for the $$$ as soon as I used the other one the Eldest Daughters has I knew I'd be buying another one sooner or later as I really liked the feel of it.

It too was bought 2nd hand (it was used for benchrest target shooting) so the trigger was worked and the action polished etc so a perfect 2nd hand purchase as everything that needed tweaking had been done.

Nah this one isn't for carrying around, she can use the Brno Mod 2 for that if she wants to do a walk around hunt for the bunnies. Having said that the eldest Daughter has done a few walk about hunts with her's (they aren't that heavy really) not compared to CF rifles - pretty sure the Daughters weighs around 3kg so not overly heavy for a walk about outfit.

Yeah my bad mate - honestly I like the Accutrigger on the Daughters, its nice and crisp (its been modded) so if this ones anything like that I will be great to shoot with.

12's the junior license age as you probably know.

I think that's reasonably, with education and supervision of course.

I've got two savage .22s now and I just can't get over how accurate they are with just about every ammo out there. Sure some of the premium stuff tightens up a bit but even cheap old CCI standard is more than acceptable- even with the s**ty old plastic stocks..

I can't see myself ever buying anything else again.

I certainly can't complain about them, they just seem to shoot and shoot bloody well for the $$$ both these Savages only cost around $450 each (2nd Hand) I honestly couldn't be bothered spending a $1k on a 22 just to shoot rabbits with.

For the $$ I'll happily stick with the 2nd market when it comes to 22's and Savage in particular, especially when they have been used for target shooting purposes, it generally means they have had all the mods and tunes done to them which makes them even more of a bargain.

The first time out with her new to her (2nd hand Savage Mk2) the Daughter put in a group that would almost fit into a 5c piece (not bad for a girl who only got the rifle and hadn't really shot much before - first time shooting groups too).

They generally get sold as those who are into shooting groups competitively need to go up to a Ansultz or other target rifle to get better groups - which works for me as I can happily use the Savage capabilities to smack gongs and bunnies in the head no worries at all.

0.241" on that best group, plenty of $1,000 rifles wouldn't shoot that either.
