The carbon elevate is here - carbon fibre stock + carbon fibre barrel - getting hands on one shortly for a look-see........
Keep the total weight with scope under 4kgs and your in the biz.

Is the carbon stock any lighter than the standard polymer?

Blade was talking about down loading a 308

Yep, I would probably prefer the 6.5mm but it wouldn't be sambar-legal here.
And I don't have a .308 so it would fill a gap.
As I said, I'm mainly interested in the design of the rifle.

I agree with bladeracer. Reloading somewhere between 308 & 30-30 is the go. Shooting a 4Ib 7oz rifle using normal 308 loads over a bench will be a bitch.

The 6.5 creadmoor is about that.

Personally I prefer to enjoy my sport.

From ADI
30-30 150gr 2,355fps
6.5 creedmoor 140gr 2,660fps
308 150gr 2,937fps

I guess add about 11oz for a scope

Good point Bladeracer - the plastic stocks (if you can still find then on a howa) would probably be the same weight - but the trade off is the carbon fibre is MUCH stronger and stiffer -----
The Hogue stocks which tend to be the standard stock for the Howa is serviceable - but quite heavy .

Good to finally see one of these actually shooting.

Still no idea of its accuracy potential, but for a hunting rifle it seems to put the first bullets where they need to go.
His 300 yard shots at a rock appear to be in the ballpark, for the first two at least, then it looked like maybe they started to climb, but that depends on how precisely he was aiming at the "dark patch" on the track.
Hopefully we'll see it on paper soon.

They can only make barrels and actions so light or thin and still maintain a safety margin.

Just got to ask your self why haven't they done it in the past.

With very high grade steel you might reduce it to, say 2.6kg, but that would be it I think. And how whippy would the barrel be?

How does it feel to be so wrong lol

I would think he's probably just as happy as I was to be proved wrong :-)
They made an amazing rifle, and I still don't know how they did it :-)

Obviously you missed the lol So, don't get excited.

Ensure you add the weight of the magazine if you quote weight of that model. I believe it isn't included in the specs.

My wife of almost 48 years often tells me I'm wrong, so, like water off a ducks back m8.

Rifle weight isn't a big deal for me. But I did recently diet & loose 8kg. Certainly helps and a tad more than about 1kg. Cheaper too.

In .308 it has been weighed at 2.13kg with a rail. One bloke reckons he might be able to save about 40gm with different mounts.
I can't find it listed on Cleaver any more, but I've written and asked the likelihood of getting one in .308 any time soon.

Skip to 9:40 to see it weighed at 4lb 11.25oz.
