Sorry my attempt at humor. I think this is the other extreme of hunting. A lot of people hut like this in the US and in Europe although I don't think they put out feed in Europe. IMHO this is not hunting. I suppose it could be likened to fishing putting bait out there and waiting. But if I was laying in wait hiding and had an animal at 75yrds calmly eating without a worry. its not a hard shot

I have no issue with waiting in a hide or in cover. I do it whisking foxes. But combined with a feeder is just cheating/culling.

I’ll ignore all the jokes. Was funny though.

I guess my position is that it isn’t hunting. Call it shooting, culling or vermin eradicating but not hunting. I might add I have no issues with farmers doing this in the case of large pig numbers or other pests.

Hey OB, I'd be a bit careful 'cause over in W.A. a bloke fishing, with empty stubbie in pocket was fined by the boys in blue. So I'm not sure how "whisking with foxes in a hide" would go down.

Oh, Any photos?

What the hell was he fined for? Surely you can have a beer while you fish?

Yep, "Drinking in a public place". The police even viewed video and charged him on that. The commissioner of police stepped up, and rescinded the fine.

I understand your point fully but you can't discount that higher population density in these countries limits a hunters available range, hence why blinds and bait are commonplace as staliking a few hundred yards in the wrong direction might put you in another hunters crosshairs.
Is it hunting? Well in those circumstances there is really no other way so yeh I guess so, by default really.
If I prayed to a higher power it would be out of thankfullness for the virtually limitless deer hunting opportunity that the communsit state of Victorian-Grad offers me.

Bigjobss you are certainly right there with the hunting conditions in other countries. I have been in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and a few others over that way in the country side and some of the places they hunt are like what we would call parks. They may be a few km from a small town which a lot of these countries have a lot of well contained and spaced out with farm in between and perhaps a wooded hill or two and thats where they hunt.
Likewise in the US for all the freedom that they have it is one of the most restricted places i have been they seem to have rules and regulations and ballots to take a animal from the wild all sorts of things. Then someone may have 400 Acres and it is dotted with elevated hides every where.
We do have a lot of freedoms in Australia that we take for granted and not appreciate, thinking the grass is greener elsewhere.

Hmmmm, honestly, getting closer or passing up the shot would be far more appropriate. None of us are in a position where we NEED to shoot an animal at that distance. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. As hunters we should spend less time thinking about how far away can I take a shot, and spend more time thinking about being a responsible part of the environment that supports us and be reflective on the full suite of experiences we get out of the decisions we make. People shoot chamois and tahr in NZ with the long bow at under 20 (yes twenty) meters. If you think you need to shoot 800 m to harvest an animal you've got some growing to do to be able to call yourself a "hunter". Take some time to experience the experience rather than feeling that you have to be able to make a kill to be successful.

of coarse it would
the problem I have with these shots is that they have to be a chest shot and on a meat animal you waste way to much
get in closer, head shoot and eat the whole thing  :wtf:

Life can seem oh so simple sometimes.
Now you need to add these unknowns.
How many moa for your holding ability.
How many moa for wind.
How many moa for imperfect parralax.
How many moa for variation in vertical due to variation in mv.

Unknowns aside, half MOA at 800m is roughly 4.5 inchs.
That should give you 2 MOA of error for a kill zone of around 6-7 inches.

Of course, a half MOA rifle is gonna cost you $$$ but I understand the OPs goals.

As others have stated, far cheaper to get in closer or far easier to wait for prey to come to you.

I wish I could shoot a four inch group at 800 metres from a field position with no wind flags. A lot of times I am very happy with a three inch group at 500 from the bench with a sea of wind flags with a rifle that shoots in the 0.2s at 100.
