.338LM PTA approved, now which rifle?

Post by andreweden » 07 Sep 2018, 8:12 pm

Decisions, decisions!
Leaning towards a Sako TRG 42

Anyone actually own one?

Any other suggestions?

I have toyed with the idea of a Desert Tech SRS-A1 covert, but I’m just thinking it might draw too much negative attention.

TRG 42. :D Bootiful. Mine's a 300WM, but it does "reach out and touch things" nicely
Fantastic trigger, and really nice/easy to break down for casing.

G'Day Fella's,

Good to hear Andreweden!
My choice, would be one of the http://www.gcpdarms.com rifles, that they make.

Check them out on Face Book as well.
There are some images of their New "Big Banger", on their as well.

Hope that helps

Would you consider a custom build using a Stiller action or similar. The cost will end up similar at the end.

Perhaps this https://www.usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=133678 for only $12750 about $5000 more than you could build the same but custom made. Sure it will make someone happy but this is a case where paying more is not getting you more.

I know its only a 300 wm I am sure you could get it in a 338

Before you even consider getting one of Desert Tech's outstanding offerings, it might pay to read the link below.

I was just thinking of how governments work on "monkey see, monkey do", one does something stupid and the others don't want to be left out.

Good luck with it, though. :drinks:

I was fortunate to let a few .338LM off at a range the recoil is pretty full on.This chap had bought it as his parents had a winery with pig and kangaroo problems so he got it for s**ts and giggles and used to let people have a go at the range just to see the smiles.Good bloke.I find my 7mm RM to be a handful doing 20 shots in a row so not sure how .338LM would be for long range target shooting. Our most successful F-Class guy used 6mm Remington to great effect

Well done getting the PTA, I have a Savage 110BA that i have had for a couple of years & happy with. Main issue is the lack of ranges you can use them on in QLD.

Sako 85 Long Range, nice enough to slip by range officers at the range but still decent barrel length for the cartridge

You could also just go with an HS precision htr, they make very nice rifles and doesn't hurt the wallet too bad
