New Sako in the safe

Picked up the Sako A7 today in 6.5 Creedmoor. This is what I ordered in place of the Lithgow LA102. In the process of mounting scope, then spend the weekend reloading. Off to the range next week to try her out. Just a little bit excited!!!!!!

I ended up ditching the Leupold PRW2 rings. Seems something wasn’t quite right with the alignment of the screws. I asked the local and he said there were some defective rings and they would be replaced. Unfortunately I got mine online from Brisvegas and have lost receipt etc. To much admin to worry about them. Got a set of the vertical split Warne mounts. I have them on my 308 already and although they take a bit to get used to aesthetically they work well.

Id like to havd a look at a A7 I've never been able to see what they are like my understanding is that you cant feed the mag from thd top like the tikka and if has the three lug bolt from the sako. Still would be a nice rifle can't go wrong with either a tikka or a sako.

The sako A7 Roughtech Pro is a lovely rifle but let down with the lack aftermarket magazines. Atlasworx and CDI in the USA are working system stock use a AI -type mag with a new metal floor plate - i am sure CDI are marketing one.

The only other issue i had with mine as a well documented sako problem with ejection of cases hitting the underside of the scope. This seems to be caused by a poorly machined claw extractor not holding the case firmly - from what i have read on any US forums.

MY A7 had the same issues but i resolved that by tweaking the scope height (mounting it a tad higher ) but on a gun around $2000 it should work with the scope mounted as low as you can to the barrelled action.

I have since moved the rifle on for something more fanciful - but still a nice rifle.

Haha - looks familiar! Is that a Meopta Meopro scope? I've got a Swarovski Z5 5-25x52 on mine with Burris Signature Zee rings, part# 420521. If you're looking for something close to Optilocks, with plastic inserts, low profile and half the price, these fit a 50-52mm objective scope really nicely on the supplied A7 mounts.

And yeah, the mag is designed top top mount - I never remove the mag on mine.

We chronoed some loads yesterday and here were the results - should give you an idea of exactly what to expect out of yours:

Lapua small primer brass
CC BR4 primers
2209 powder

Lapua 123gr Scenars - OAL 2.850" (mag length: 0.015" off lands)
43.2gr - 2820fps (competition load)
44.2gr - 2880fps
45.2gr - 2975fps

Hornady143 ELD-X - OAL 2.860" (mag length: 0.070" off lands)
41.5gr - 2650fps
42.0gr - 2680fps
42.5gr - 2710fps

My competition load is 43.2gr of 2209 with the 123gr Lapuas. It's pretty mild for a 6.5 Creedmoor, but is 3/8" at 100m accurate and should be easier on the barrel, as I usually put 42 shots at a time through it on shooting days. Plus I'm only shooting out to 200m with it.

For the 143gr ELD-X I've found good accuracy at 41.8gr of 2209 and there also seems to be a high node at around 42.6gr which I'm going to load around next time I go out. This is about 1gr above most book max values, but no signs of pressure in the small primer brass. I don't mind a hot load in the 143gr as that will be for hunting and longer ranges.

G’day Mate

Yep I went for the Meopta Meopro 6-18x50 on top of the A7.
Took her out today and she shot 5 shot sub MoA all day straight out of the box. Thinking the trigger could use a little adjustment, nevertheless it’s a good rig straight up.
I tried the 143 ELD X today and had the best results with 41.5gn AR2209.
Will head back out towards weeks end and confirm those loads. Will seat projectiles a little linger this time to refine the accuracy. Absolute cracker. Love that A7 to bits.
Mate can’t thank you enough for the recommendation.

Mate fortunately I haven’t had that issue thus far. Nice bit of gear mate. I rate it highly.

I don't have that problem, either. Being a push-feed, mine spits the empty cases right out the side of the ejector hole. My 223 Sako 85, however, does spit them up into the scope at times. Conversely, my 243 Sako 85 did not. I suspect it's might be more of an issue on the smaller action Sakos.

What OAL did you try?

EDIT: Strike that, just saw your message - 2.850"

Both Sako A7's i owned had the ejection issue as well as an 85 in 223 . But my two other 85's in 243 and 270 did not. Go figure??

Anyway only have the 85 Finnlight in 270 Win at the moment..... in the Sako marque as well as a Tikka T3 Stainless Hunter in 25-06.
