When I was looking for a .223 a few months back, I had a few people advise against the Howa mini action. One bloke I know bought one and seems to be promptly trying to get rid of it(havent had a chance to quiz him about why he's doing so). A dealer also told me there were reports of issues with the mags having problems in them. I think it was to do with feeding properly, but I didnt ask for specifics.
Looking at this 1500 Stainless Hunter we bought, I reckon thats a pretty decent rifle for the money. Looks to be solid and durable, and dealer said same. He could have likely pushed me to one of the Ruger Americans, or any number of other rifles, but he was pretty emphatic that the Howa was an honest, durable and well-performing rig, and I have seen nothing to contradict that.
When we get around to making a decision about the other station rifle(.243 Win), we might very well look at another Howa 1500.
