Be careful DB longer shooting is a disease like addiction you can't stop when you start
Trust me mate I've just caught it with the 7mag once I stepped over the 400m mark something happened :unknown: :unknown:
I couldn't stop bettering myself for distance but what has me thinking is where does it stop at what range :unknown: :unknown:
But Until then just have fun as there's plenty of it when it comes to shooting sports   :drinks:

I think ive got . The . addiction already as I woke up at three this morning and drew up a plan to push the loader through the block and open uo 400 meters of clear safe line of sight. ...  :drinks:

you will never look back Daddybang
200 is a really good range for practice :drinks: , you will see mistakes that are you at that range you wont see as well at 100
if you go out to 400 even better, and after a short time what you believe is difficult wont be
it is addictive but a hell of a lot of fun, I shoot out to 800 on a regular basis just for giggles
but I wont shoot animals at that distance because I need to use a chest shot and loose to much meat
better to get closer to animals and shoot them in the head for the freezer
good onya for having a crack :drinks: :drinks:

I didn't get a chance to pull a trigger on the weekend but I knocked up a bit of a target out of 10mm plate so I'll have a go at that this arvo and see how I go. :drinks:

you need some hardened steel - I picked up a 10" AR500 plate for only $69 the other day - past 150m, the 223 just pings off it leaving a nice mark on fresh spray-paint!
At what point does lack of maintenance become patina?

Only had the plate of mild handy but am grabbing some harder plate off the dad in law this weekend if I can get to Herberton. This stuff looks pretty when ya get a strike and it shows up good in the 6x scope. :drinks:

I hear ya richo I consider myself extremely lucky to have the land especially when I see some of the hassles some fellow shooters have getting somewhere to shoot and some of the rules at ranges etc. And technology blows !!!! :drinks:

this is what 800 looks like Daddybang, the rock pile at the bottom of the yellow arrow
have you got enough room in the backyard? but ya might have to upgrade the 6 power I recon
its a hell of a lot of fun, I cant explain what its like to see others hitting the gong for the first time at that distance
especially young kids :drinks:

A mate and I had a bit of fun a while back shooting out to 700 and 1000yds, never tried any long range shooting before but, you could see the target swing before we eventually got the ding sound back at us.

.222 was and remains a great and very accurate round. I have a CZ527 in .223 and my brother (Howa .223) and I have a game where we put a dozen or so 300ml water bottles on a rise 220m from our base and then, starting at opposite ends, we race to see how many we can hit. Great fun and the .223 is a lazer on ferals. I use 2206H in the .223 as well because it suits all the calibres/weights I reload.

Unfortunately I could get 800 meters clear but it'd be too close to the boundary for my idea of safe. :drinks:

Bfs what size is that gong ya shooting??

Yep diamond J I absolutely love the cz and the triple two. As ya can probably see I don't shoot groups as such I like to play games as well. Usually I play tag where I shoot a round then another as quick as I can to see how close the follow up is. Im a fan of zombie land and believe strongly in double tapping everything!!!   :drinks:

if you want some hardened steel targets Daddybang you can use old used plow disc's or used blades off graders ect ....
when hanging them seat belts or rubber strap is good as you will shoot through it without cutting it in half
I'm exited for you Daddybang you and yours are going to have a heap of fun :drinks: :drinks:

the blade off the loader is perfect, the steel work hardens and from what I have seen wont dent
make sure you paint the gong white Daddybang it stands out way better but it is a good idea to put a black dot in the middle for a smaller aim point :drinks:

My 200m range has a deep dip with a dam and a gully in it between my shooting point and the target, but they are level with each other.
The topography here makes it hard to find the "perfect" spot, lots of wide open spaces but the ground is up and down like a whore's drawers.
This spot, happily, is right at the front of the house.
The only drawback is the gully, it means a long walk to tape over previous shots. Being old and lazy I just drive.
Thankfully the Hawke scope is clear enough to see the .22 holes unless there is heat haze making focus difficult.
The target is under the red arrow.

Thanks mate, I wanted to make sure I didn't have rounds going any further.

The railway track plates crater a bit, but they pull them up.

Except for the two 70gn RDF that hit the bottom edge. The timber pile would have dealt with whatever made it through though.

Thats a f@#kin nice lookin spot gaz!! :drinks:
My target is tech screwed to a small paper bark growing out of the floor of my dam (no water in it atm) and is sitting approx 1.5 meters below my "bench" so not ideal but plenty good enough for playing around.  :drinks:
