A friend is currently loading up 5 full house loads for me to test his marlin? (bigger than the govt?) 45/70 - he does not think I’ll manage to shoot all 5 without complaint...
I’ve seen him shoot some lighter loads with it and that was insane. It’s bloody artillery!!!

45/70 government is essentially the same cartridge no matter what brand of rifle it's in....it can just be loaded hotter in some...

The only problem with the 45/70 is that it consumes a lot of lead. the 357 is a superb all-rounder on the other hand...

I second the 6mmBR suggestion, you already have a 204 for foxes and bunnies and a larger caliber for deer. It is a real shame not to have at least one BR in the safe, it is possibly the best case design ever made. Every boy should have one, if 6mm is too small try a 7mm or 30BR.

Beautiful. I had 2 45/70s, with the idea of using them as a dangerous game stopping rifle.....wish I'd just bought a 458 straight off.....now I've just got one 45/70,and that's only coz it's a double rifle....

Yes you do. When I got my first gun, I was like naa this is good enough. So a few weeks later a pta for 308 was put in... disulfide while waiting for PTA to be approved (long story) I went and bought a 22lr. Then I had the urge to get a 6.5 manbun. And after that the only gun I would need is a 223.

Currently I don't have a 223, but another gun is on its way, which will give me two new calibers, and I still want a 223. Last couple of weeks got some crows eating eggs and now I think I definately want an air rifle. I might be able to squeeze two guns, but not the third in my safe... which is a quandary that only has one way to resolve it.... but have a feeling the most obvious solution will create another problem....a half empty safe needs more rifles to fill it :welcome:

Yeah, air rifle- good idea, 8mm Mauser better idea, in fact they are all good. Need a shottie too!Taking the manbun for a walk on Saturday, with the change in deer hunting restrictions a nearby state forest is looking good.

I’m not sure what the model is, but it felt right, sorta choosing a new dog. Short barrel, synthetic stock, think it’s a new model

If it's the 783 you might want to have a look as some forum threads.
