Another couple of advantages of the marlins are they are easily disassembled for cleaning from the breech. Especially for the dirtier pistol powders I appreciate this. Also aftermarket triggers are easy to get and install. Sorry just channeling my inner fanboy :D

I have a rossi stainless 44 mag. I used it for a while and it smoothed up nicely. I then put in a gunslinger kit (springs etc) and it is great. I use cast 240gn semi wadcutters with no feeding issues. It flattens pigs and goats.

Like all replicas how can one be the best if the original was not? If they change the design to make it the best it's no longer a replica, surely?

I would think the best modern lever would use a rotating locking bolt, side-eject, detachable box magazine, and probably use a fixed trigger group.
I've never looked closely at those that have the trigger group fixed to the lever - do they work well?

Shooting the Henry the other day reminded me of some of the things I don't like about the tube mag design.
First, the inner tube is so easy to lose. I've had it drop out while walking, admittedly unloaded so very little tension locking it in, and also shot it down range while inserting it and having a fumble :-)
Second, making a loaded rifle safe, or changing to different ammunition is annoying. I much, much prefer to carry the loaded mag separately and make the rifle safe in a moment as required.

iv got an 1895 built 1892 winchester in 44-40 and they are pretty slick... not loads better then a 1975 built 1894 in 44-40/30-30 how ever.

think one of the new marlins in 357 mag would be fun as... seem like they are built quite wel, the japanese made winchester are really slick looking too... how ever i havent shot either.

Just a heads up there's a new marlin 20" 1894cb 357 at Suffolk Sports which I just cancelled - took a couple of years to arrive and they only received the one.

If I was to buy another lever gun it'll be the Big Horny Armoury 460 :)

Mainly cats, they get pretty big up at the bug out and it's cheaper to detonate them with a 460 then the 50BMG :) It's more of a wish list type rifle as I already have the matching pistol so I'll be saving money by not having to purchase ammo or dies

ive seen write ups on those big horns ,they sure are lucky in the US with access to some stuff. i sent a email to a rossi specialist a week ago, just to see if i could obtain some aftermarket replacement parts. still waiting for a reply. found this pretty normal when i was in the car scene, alot of yank businesses don't want to deal with overseas orders :unknown:

I have a soft spot for 45 calibers. My Uberti is a "73 clone in 45 Colt, I've got five handguns in 45 Colt too. Rember that the rim of the 45 Colt cartridge was there for headspacing and not extraction, I have had no extraction problems with afore mentioned Uberti. If I were to go out today to buy a combo today it would be a Marlin 1894 and Ruger Blackhawk/Super Blackhaw, bisley grip frame, if available in 44 Nagnum.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

I keep hearing good things about Uberti GLS, I’ll see how my Rossi goes, I could always trade up. The Uberti seems very popular with cowboy shooting, and lots of accessories. At the moment I’m trying to resist the temptation to buy a ‘94 Winchester in 44 mag. It doesn’t have a real use, but I like my model 70 bolts and a lever would be a good addition to my collection

your a real rossi fan aren't you pete ? :) the budget really couldn't handle another purchase at the moment , doesn't stop me dreaming though. i got onto a fella who's in the cowboy shooting scene who knows people in the US who also does some importing. he reckons he might be able to get some stevez gunz products out here for me :D . this fella has a spring kit for rossi '92 , you had any experience with these pete ? or is yours fine just as is ?

i'm not a marlin fan, but they've got a stainless/laminate 16 1/2 " barreled, large loop m94 coming out . one of those in 44 with a red dot wouldn't be a bad thing...... :D

That would make a sweet little hunting package. Just remember the Marlins are comparatively on the heavier side.

The weight of marlins is a negative for me. I had a 336 30-30, with a scope on top it weighed about the same as a bolt gun. I traded it on a Winchester 94. Light weight and very “pointable”. It’s why I got a Rossi

The 336 is only 80gms heavier than the Win 94 though? If you preferred iron sights on the Winchester why did you scope the Marlin?

The 94 win I had was a lot lighter than the marlin, more than 80 grams. I moved the 94 on because I can’t see well enough to shoot 30-30 out to its potential range. Just me, but I really didn’t want to mount a scope on a compact lever gun . Defeats the purpose of a light weight pointable gun. JMHO, I’m sure this subject can be argued six ways from Sunday, Pistol caliber out to 50-75 yard is a different story. I can be comfortable with that and open sights. In the last couple of years, I’ve bought and sold a few firearms, if something doesn’t “fit “ for me, or live up to expectations and usage, I’ll move it on . A lot of people have given me good advice, but I have to experience things first hand. It’s cost me some dollars , but first hand experience is worth it I reckon

Do you recall what the Winchester weighed?
I'm similar, I need to spend some time with a firearm to decide if I particularly enjoy it, but I'd be unlikely to sell it :-)
