Wow that's a long way forward, can you get bridge mounts for that?

Forward mounted optic is the point of the scout rifle. Idea is to use low magnification and shoot both eyes open.

Nice scope mate, I've been eyeing off a lynx red dot for mine at the LGS

The Gunsite comes with rings if you want to mount a scope in the traditional location. But as Baldrick noted, that's not the point of a scout rifle. Having the forward mounted scope allows you to be able to shoot with both eyes open, giving you a better peripheral view of your surroundings. Plus it allows for quicker target acquisition when shooting on the go.
This of course requires a specific type of scope, with eye relief between 8.5" - 10' or so. Scopes in this range do sacrifice longer zooms. I think the longest I've seen is a pistol scope made by Burris that goes to 12x. But 7x is more than adequate (even with my old eyes) for where I hunt (North East US) since we don't have much by the way of wide open spaces. My hunting takes place in dense brush.

Which hardly anyone seems to do with them

Not knocking the Scout, but too many people buying it for the cool factor then treating it like a regular setup rifle.

Yeah I scratch my head whenever I see one with a conventional scope

That's what the quick disconnect rings are for.

Have you done any load testing with it Eduardo?

What's the best size group you've been able to get out of it?

Despite the crappy weather I forced myself out today just to get a rough sighting in, even if to get on paper. Something about having a scope that's not sighted in makes me cranky. Anyway, I only took about 25 rounds and 4 paper targets with me to my "range". Best group was about 2.5" at 70 meters (est). Average group was about 3". Surprisingly, my best group was free standing while the other 3 of 4 groups were resting on my ATV.

Not as good as I'd hoped. This rifle has done better but I was using crappy surplus ammo and it was windy as all hell. I'll give it another go with better (not quite match) ammo on a better day. I'll post up results.

Yeah, uh, when I shoot my Scout I get 1/8 inch groups.

That's free hand... 1 handed... with my left hand... standing on one foot... aiming through a hurricane.

Pretty easy really...

I know, that's what the ;) was for.

BTW, another thing I am curious about is how well zero is maintained when detaching and reattaching the scope with the QD rings. If it's doesn't hold zero well, there would be no point in QD rings. Once we get a semi warm day I'll try that little experiment.

Just needed 1 click on either axis seems to be a common trend.

Based on other comments I've read anyway. Don't use a quick release setup myself...

Rather than make my own post I'm gonna add to yours (not trying to hijack)

I picked up a Lynx red dot for my scout today

Tried to take a photo of the reticle but it didn't come out so good lol. Can't wait to get it sighted in and have some fun

Looks great.

Never heard of Lynx. Strictly red dot or is there any magnification?

Also, what sling is that? I pretty much hate my cheapo one but I needed to grab something before hunting season started this year.

Yeah no magnification. I was tempted to get a smaller red dot and one of those flip up 3x magnification rigs but in the end I liked the look of the Lynx and it was significantly cheaper

The sling is a Brownell's competitor plus. They're awesome, I've started putting them on all my rifles. They're designed so you can wrap your front arm up in them and make a solid shooting platform when standing.

They come in tan as well but I like the black ones

Love the burris setup Eduardo. I'm still debating to go the traditional way or scout setup ( since I have astigmatism in one eye, I'm not sure It would work for me ). But looking at that i'll definitely have to check it out :)

Cant say I bought it for the forward mounted scope. I mean it is cool and works for alot of folks. I bought it because I love carbines and the easy to adjust Length of pull, along with the iron sights as backups. And you have to admit diving into a big mob of pigs with 10 rounds in a box magazine is pretty AWESOME * Huge Cheesy Pig Eating Grin *

Sorry for not answering you Jordy. Well from what Ive heard it can be a drama, But truth be told Ive never had an issue with a handgun scope, not that Ive used one in a couple years. So Im thinking if it gets worse I'll be using a regular scope anyway down the track.
