Sako Bear series controlled feed

Post by hoogle » 27 Jan 2014, 11:06 am

G'day all,

I just want to know for the Sako Bear series rifles, is the controlled feed the only difference?

The rest of the 85 series are push feed if I have it right?

Is that the only difference with the Bear rifles?

The controlled feed was the main objective of their redesign from what I read. All revolving around it being a 'dangerous game' rifle.

Making sure a round chambers and doesn't fall out is kind of important if you have a furious bear charging down at you

The front sling mount is also forward on the barrel for these calibres, not the stock like the rest of the range.

That's not exclusive to Sako though, right? The barrel sling point?

Noob question here, why put it on the barrel and not the stock?

The pressure on the barrel isn't bad?

Not exclusive to Sako, no.

It's on the barrel though so the mount doesn't recoil back into your fingers on those big calibres.

As above, the Bear series is chambered in a lot of heavy recoiling rounds, e.g. 375 H&H Mag, 416 Rigby, 450 Rigby and 500 Jeffery.

It's on the barrel to save your front fingers when firing.

There shouldn't be any pressure on the sling/barrel when firing though as you'll have it in your hands, not slung over your shoulder.

If you were doing something odd like shooting prone and caught it on your elbow or something, I suppose you could effect the accuracy somewhat?

Just FYI Sako do chamber their Black Bear in .308 and 30-06... If anyone's interested they do have a couple of 'smaller' calibres in this series.
