Fusion 30-06 150g Great deal and groups

Hey all

Thought Id show off some nice groups that I got with some 150g Fusions out of my 30-06 Model 70 EW

Two 0.7 MOA groups @100yd back to back, 3x shots taken in fairly quick succession then allowed to cool for 20-25 min.

After this result I had a chat to my LGS (Abela's) about ordering a case of the stuff, imagine my surprise when they came back with an offer of $288 for 200 rounds / 10 packs.

$28/pack for 150g 30-06 with a bonded core boat tail construction that shoots great out of my rifle, absolutely stoked.

How’s much does the rifle weigh out of interest? And what were you snooting off - bench, rest, freehand? I just shot my new 3kg sauer 3006 in 200’s with max powder charge and geeezus it gave a boot. More than a magnum 12g...it also loves the 150 fusions and 180 feds.

Was shooting from a bench off rear bag and adjustable height front rest.

Rifle weighs about 3.6kg / 8.1 pounds with the scope and rings on it, not a heavy rifle but not an ultra light either.

edit: Rifle without scope/rings on it is 3.12kg

Recoil is noticeable, for myself unless i use some extra padding I begin to feel sore after 30 rounds or so from a bench wearing a t-shirt, ends up causing me to flinch not long after that.

I can imagine max load 200g rounds being kind of punishing from a bench

The stock design of the EW model 70 is pretty good for recoil (Bell and Carlson) its utterly rigid and has a nice squishy pachmayr decelerator recoil pad from the factory built into it which seems to help.

:D My 7mm Rem Mag starts to hurt when doing a detail of the ground.I feel your pain.LOL.30/06 still a good all round chamber.I cant justify having one when I have the 7 but I first seen one in action in the 90s when a contractor had one it literally blew the horns off its head shooting goats

Load from 110 to 220 - is one dam variable cartridge!!!! Pity it shoots like a rainbow lol but I don’t reslly mind...I love the cartridge.
I honestly think a 270 / 7mm is a better deer cartridge but....it’s not an 06 lol

[quote="TassieTiger"] Pity it shoots like a rainbow lol.

I mean yeah a 270 / 7mm is going to be flatter, that being said a max hand load 165g is going to leave a 22 inch barrel 30-06 at about 2900-2920 fps

With a good 0.475 BC projectile and a 250yd zero you will be peak 3.1 inch high at 150yd and drop 3.7 low at 300 arriving with over 2000 ft.-lb of energy. Well within the kill zone of a deer aiming dead on for a chest shot.

With a little hold over 350yd should be quite doable without any scope adjustments and without having to hold off the target, further than that well I mean id probably just try get a bit closer.

Its not a 7 mag or a .270 but I don't think I would call it a rainbow :unknown:

Kuma,
mate after 30 rounds of anything with more than 15 ft/lb recoil energy you would feel it !!
Hey the Fusions shoot well and are a great hunting bullet. the 30-06 will shoot any big game animal on this planet (not dangerous game) with a good 150-180 grain bullet placed carefully. Just keep your shot within 300m and practice. Leave the long range hunting to the so called 'experts' with their howitzers!!!

Just being a dick mate, it’s certainly not a rainbow with anything 180gns and under. All good. And keep in mind, the 06 won a LOT of distance comps prior to the very latest pseudo designed cases...still does well in the right persons hands :-) and will bring down almost any Aust animal at distances that shouldn’t really be shot at - check some you tubes in USA...taking big game at 800-1000 yards with 06...it’s plenty capable!

Here’s a group I shot with my 06 last fortnight.
