The bolt actually cycles lovely and smooth, not having any bolt binding issues at all.

The only time it was playing up was on the first cartridge of a full magazine, as it would grab the cartridge off the feed ramp push it half out of the magazine then it would bind up and jam.

If anyone else is having that issue the cause was a magazine issue, a mix of sharp unpolished feed lips and too much spring pressure causing the magazine lips to bite into the brass case and latch on and jam the action. This would occur on the full magazine as that is when spring pressure on the cartridge is highest.

To resolve this I pulled the magazine apart, they are user serviceable. I bent two of the spring coils past their spring point to reset them with less tension. Have to be careful not to take too much pressure out or the magazine will not reassemble properly.

I also polished the feed lips with 400, 800 and 1200 grit wet-dry. A touch of oil was used on the 1200 and made sure to remove all oil and metal dust residue when done.

I put a thin film of gun grease, as in a really tiny bit on my finger and wiped it on the feed lips of the mag then off again with a patch.

Feeds great now, the action still needs to be run with authority like all Mauser based guns, much happier with it. Hopefully that resolves it for good. :drinks:

Glad you got it sorted. CZs are good value for money, IMO - especially when you win the wood lottery, like you have.

I only mentioned the sloppy bolt issue because it is a feature of most 527s - and always on the first round of a full mag. Yes, the bolts are slick, but the extra play in them can be an issue for reasons described. I also did what you did, which was to polish the feed ramp and magazine lips. The mag spring loses a bit of tension with use, so will get better.

Flyer is absolutely on the mark with his comments about the bolt binding up when cycled.
I have the same issue with my 527 Varmint in .223 (it's an older rifle with 1:12 twist) and was repeatedly told it simply did not exist as an issue. I tried every lubricant, grease, additive, etc. I could find. The solution turned out to be the thumb on the back of the bolt. That's not how a bolt action rifle is meant to be operated.
I can live with it but a rifle, like any other product, should operate as designed. It shouldn't be up to buyers to find a work-around for manufacturing issues.
I love my CZ527, I'll keep it 'till I shuffle off this mortal coil. It is accurate beyond my capabilities and shoots 50-55gr projectiles like a laser.
I own other CZ rifles because I recognise their quality and value for money.
Sadly, here in Aus we do not get the same customer service that our USA friends enjoy.

Hey Diamond thanks for the info.

My one fortunately doesn't have bolt binding issues :) after polishing up the mag feed lips and reducing spring pressure it actually cycles pretty damn slick

I was thinking that could it be the new bolt handle that has helped to fix the binding issue? Not sure if you guys have the revised bolt or not.

I know they changed the bolt handle to assist with scope clearance, maybe the new bolt handle angle is helping to avoid the tendency of the bolt to tilt forward in the raceway and bind as it is pushed forward. The less upright bolt handle (has more of a curve between bolt knob and bolt now) would seem to provide less forward tilting leverage.

Either that or maybe I just got lucky. I am torn between absolutely loving this rifle, and being slightly annoyed that it was not as perfect as my Model 70 was out of the box. I agree wholeheartedly that they should be flawless out of the box, but on the other hand my Model 70 was $1000 more which helps with the annoyance haha.

I get the feeling that perhaps the design of the CZ 527/550 always involved a fairly large amount of hand fitting at the factory to get them running right, they may be skimping on this to try and save labor now that costs are higher, the fact that they have moved away from the CRF action 550 to the cheaper to make push feed CZ557 seems to support that thought.

I actually had a chat with a CZ rep the other day who was at my LGS and he confirmed that all their CRF guns with the exception of the big dangerous game magnums will be end of life very soon as they are not profitable enough.

I had some of the early CZ550 that came across in 375 and 416rigby and they could be a little hit and miss as well. One had full mag feeding issues and both had very poor stocks. I was using the 416 as donor for a bigger wildcat and the stocks were breaking all the time on this class of gun. You'd take the amazingly cheap $1070 price of their big game guns but automatically have to be figuring a decent replacement stock for them. I think they revised it during the 2000's. What a terrible pity if the 550's are discontinued.

Cracker that wuld be a good match. The gibbs only has a few options . Brno 602, probably rarer then hens teeth now. P14/M17, GMA and did not sure if Montana rifle company ever get their PH action going. I was once looking at doing one on a Stiller action( the scaled up rem700 made for 408 cheytac) with detach mag just for kicks.
