cz 17 hornet future ?

Post by Leadspitter » 16 Jul 2019, 5:05 pm

G day guys

My pta finally came thru

I have been phoning up sydney shops
No cz 17 hornets in shops ,
Winchester has none in stock and has removed cz17 hornet from on line inventory

Looks like demand does not warrant importing any for the time being.

Looks like i may be picking up 22 hornet instead.

I was in two minds about the 17 since hornady removed 25gr ammo from their inventory

Do any of you guys have any info or thoughts on 17 hornets future.

I am not a reloader at this stage and like the idea of buying factory ammo

Will the supply of hornady 17ammo become scarce.

At least 22 hornet has ammo from multiple suppliers

Thoughts , thanks !

Why limit yourself to Sydney? Email every shop you can find. I sent out dozens of emails when I was chasing my Ruger American Rimfire Compact and finally found two of them.

I don't see the .17's going away, they fill a nice niche here in Oz I think.
No idea about ammo, but if you have any concerns at all, just have your dealer order you a bulk load of it now, long before you find yourself down to your last few hundred rounds.
Worst case would be to use .22 Hornet brass and load your own.

Would you look at a secondhand one?

I am guessing that loaded 17 Hornet ammo will be available for quite a while, while it might not be as common as 223 ammo you will be able to find it if you look hard enough.

its a real shame if they are not going to keep looking after the people who have them, there are quite a few out there and pretty dumb really

do not be scared to buy a second hand one though as they wont be burnt out
I recommend learning to make your own cases as the hornady factory cases were pretty hit and miss but as factory ammo goes it did shoot well
I own two 17 ackleys, what the 17 hornady hornet was based on, here is how I make cases

IMHO well worth the work, its a great round and once you have the cases so cheap to reload, you would not be disappointed :drinks:

Thanks for the replies fellas

I will look around a bit more as far as rifles go.

I figured that ammo would be available and just stock up as you say

Marksman i have read a few of your threads on making cases and annealing

Straightforward enough , if you have the gear , certainly something to think about.

Apparently american eagle is made by hornady

I have as much faith in hornady ammo as in tata airbags mores the pity.

Cheers.

You don't need much gear, a socket on a drill and a gas torch is what most people use for annealing.
American Eagle should be Federal ammo.
