Howa 1500 Varmint SS .223REM

Post by Sturmmann » 23 Aug 2019, 3:38 pm

I'm so excited, just came back from O'Reillys in Thornbury. Put my money down for Howa 1500 Varmint SS in .223REM, also picked up a Burris AR Riflescope™ 4.5-14x42mm with Tally rings. All up $1,400, it's there about a what I was willing to spend. $1,500 was my ceiling.

To be honest I don't know if I overpaid or it was on par. Either way, in excited.

Now to wait 3 weeks for my licence and PTA to come through. Guess I can pass the time looking for a .308 rig!!!

I'm not the most patient human but I reckon the wait for the first PTA to go through is the longest 28 days ever.

Awesome mate! I love my 223 howa so much I picked up a 6.5 creedmoor too. The wait for the first PTA sucks but it's worth it

I don't own any Howas but I have seen a few 223 Varmints and they do very well. Be patient when running it in and you should enjoy a very accurate rifle. Do you reload? What are you planning to use your rifle for?

Roy Weatherby used push feed extraction for his rifles and he shot a bit of dangerous game with them.

No the 460, 416, 378 Weatherby Magnums all use the Mark 5 action which is push feed. If you like the control feed action design, Mauser style, fair enough but don't buy it because of some perceived superior extraction ability.

Other than an actual Mauser, my favourite control feed action is the CZ 550. What are you liking the look of?
