Scope zero

Post by WookyMysta » 21 Oct 2019, 7:35 am

Hi to all,

Went to indoor range to test my new rig.

The groups are about 35-40mm high at 50 meters.

Wondering what the zero would equate to and roughly the mpbr ?

I'm using 130grn. 308W rounds.

Thanks.

That's way too high imo. Would equate to around 4" high at 100m,which is probably about bang on at 350m.

Depends on a lot of variables but I'd personally have it hitting dead on a 50m which should have it around an inch high at 100

There will be tables somewhere on the net showing where it should be hitting a different ranges. If u want to get real serious find out the bc and speed of your bullet. Punch it into the calculators and that should be of help. I’m taking mine to the range today to test it at 100 and 200. Nothing like a range test to be sure

maximum point blank range is an oldy used for 300yd range shots in africa because you are working on a 6-8 inch kill zone
I have setup a 308 for my daughter using 130gr bullets but have sighted it for a 200 yd zero
the problem that I can see you facing using this method is that the 130gr will fall out of the sky quickly before 300yd and being around 3 inches high at 100 will cause problems for you, so IMHO you are better off to do as I have and just zero for 200yd
you will need to practice at this range to get proficient at shooting this distance but when you are a 250yd or 50 yard shot will be nothing to you
unless you get buck fever   :drinks: good luck with it :drinks:

Right on the bulls eye at 50m will keep you pretty flat (within an inch) out to 150m, then 2-3 inches drop at 200m

if you are running a 130gr 308 bullet at 3000fps your trajectory should be close to in yards: +.60" at 50yd, +1.63" at 100yd, +1.46" at 150yd, zero at 200yd, -2.96" at 250 and -7.60" at 300yd, so as l said earlier a 200yd zero is a good one for doing a dead on hold for this recipe
works for me :drinks: for this type of setup l also only use flat based bullets for better accuracy

Would factory 130’s be doing 3000fps?

On my SBC ballistics calc if he dials in at 50yds and is getting 2800fps with 130gn and bc is .3, with 2 inch sight height - he will be looking at a foot (12 inches) drop at 300yds as you mentioned above...not ideal.

That’s interesting - ADI handbook shows max loads of first 3 recommended powders under 3000 FPS with ar2207 max at 2837fps.

I honestly would have thought factory rounds like federal etc - would have been below all max handload speeds...
